Hi all,

My name is Kyle. I just turned 25 yesterday and bought myself a new (used) toy. My long time dream car. A freakin Dodge Viper!

2003 SRT 10 with 47k. I could not be more estatic. I am new to the forums, and new to the world of Vipers. I must ask, what is the VOA member number?

And if any of you are Game of Thrones fans then my my username and plates on the car should make sense. Oberyn is a charector who's nickname is "The Red Viper"

HEY you pinged a memory cell! Back when I was 25 I bought my DREAM CAR: a V12 Jag XKE. I can still remember the rush of taking delivery, and peeking into my 1-car basement garage -at least 10 times a day. Same thing happened in '93, '96 too! CONGRATS!

Is this your first Hi-Torque machine? BE CAREFUL with the throttle pedal, especially if have OE Run-Flat (Run-Crap) tires that may LOOK GOOD, but 100% are NOT good. Trust me-us on this.


PS I used to live in Waukesha.... Adjacent/behind the Davidson estate (Harley-DAVIDSON).

And Jon, I grew up in a 71 E V12 - my mother bought it new when I was 8. Was here daily driver (yes, in snow) for 10 years. She sold it only a few years ago. Was a dream to drive, and was got me going on cars in the first place.

LOL! No, her name (then) was Martha (now Marti, she had it legally change). Her's was a white 'vert, black interior, with the automatic. My mother just turned 75! But she bought the car from Philpenn Imports (no longer around) in Bryn Mawr, PA (Philly suburb). Right off the showroom floor.

Quarter life crisis is a thing now? What do you do for that, leave your wife for an 8th grader? I mean, since mid life crisis you leave your wife for a 25 yr old, seems the mathematical thing to do. And planning to live to 100 are we? Fairly ambitious I would say, I wish you the best of luck. Listen to Jon's advice, it will help you make your goal.

Slowhatch is right, gears will make that thing jump like a jackrabbit. Lots of fun.

Have fun and take it easy until you get used to it. Most of all, keep a smile on your face, give thumbs up to others, and be prepared to spend a while answering questions at gas stations.

Thanks! I think the priority for now will be tires, and I'm thinking the shocks may be in need of some help as well. Gears are definitely on the list of potentials. Right now I am trying to focus on essentials.

The smile is permanent for sure. And I love the attention I get. I did not buy it for attention, but smiling ladies and people taking pictures is always fun.

I wouldn't be where I am today if I weren't ambitous. So maybe I'll raise the bar to 150! I can only imagine what the Vipers will be like then!

Nice. I like your attitude. How are you enjoying it so far? I used to go out and look at it in the garage just to see if it was still there too. But I haven't done that in like, 2 days, so maybe I better go check. Really there is no better feeling than getting your dream car. It seems a little similar to how I did it. It was a promise I made to myself that I was able to keep. That is just the greatest feeling. you set out to make it happen and did. Isn't that awesome? iand What is interesting about these cars is it seems like that feeling doesn't really go away. You see people on here who have had a number of vipers since 92 and they still behave like little kids on Christmas morning everytime they go to drive them.

It's good to get involved on the forums early too. Lots of good advice on here. And as I said before, Jon's advice about safety will help you get to that 150 yr old goal.

Actually I've been asking around (http://driveviper.com/forums/threads/2883-Best-detailing-shop-in-MKE-CHI-area) for myself with no avail.

Just a thought...for me I had the issue of wanting a good detail shop that not only would do a good job on my expensive car but also one that wouldn't take it put for a joy ride. A problem with a lot of detail joints or some dude who details out,of his garage kind of thing. Even if he is good, he isn't insured for if he drops the orbital n your hood.

So what I recommend, is call up a really respected and high end Hot Rod shop or High End Body Shop. They are used to dealing with valuable cars and won't go joy ride it an wreck it. Body shops have to detail all the cars they work on and so they have the ability to detail high end cars. Hot rod shops are also able to do a good one. The shop I use does a lot of orange peel work on their customers new cars. If one of their customers buys a new DD for his wife and needs the orange peel taken out of it, they bring it to them. The shop I use regularly builds 100k plus hot rods so I know I can trust them with my Viper. The place I use isn't crazy expensive either. They did a cut and polish on my 02 (lots of swirls) for 500. Which I think is totally reasonable. They did a buff and seal (no cut required) on my 06 for 350.00 and they did do a little extra and removed some etching off that was left by the previous owner but I have gotten to know them so they take care of me a bit.

So, call a few places up and see of they will do it. Like an said there is totally something to be said for peace of mind knowing your car is in good hands. And, out here at least, a chincy, low-rent shady-ass car wash would charge at least 300 for a detail, and you could maybe talk em down to 250. But would it be worth it to have some idiot who doesn't know their ass from a whole in the ground burn your paint? And yes they are insured but what a mess to deal with. I say a few hundred more is worth it.

Obviously, there are fantastic high end detail shops that are totally trustworthy but they may be harder to find. There are some in the Beverly Hills area of course, but they also charge crazy fees. So, this is at least what works for me and what I recommend. I hope this helps.

I am loving it! Though going through 3 tanks of gas in a weekend is going to be a habit I need to break ASAP. I am definitely digging the activity on the forums so far. Lots of neat tips and tricks I found already and my list of ideas is growing and growing. However, I will only be doing quick inexpensive things for now as I need to let the reserves build back up haha. The previous owner put straight pipes on the car which I believe is causing the 02 sensor to throw a check engine light. Can anyone confirm that might be a cause?
