Lowering Gen. 2 ???

Thinking about lowering my 01 RT and found these springs that are supposed to work...Anybody used these or have another suggestion???...Was there any problems with the new alignment?

I used the Eibach lowering springs on my 97 GTS. I had it aligned afterwards just because I wanted my specs dialed in.

I also have the Eibachs on my Roe 2001 GTS. Suggest that you stay with the skinnier 275 front tires if you use those springs. My nose has 185 x 30 x 18" and they also lower the car significantly (I have 11" wide front Forgeline VR1 wheels). I also do competition and with only a few other susp mods I kick ass. Nice ride quality

My only think holding me back from lowering it is that fact that the lip extensions already scrape on everything even if you go slow.

Definitely needs to be lowered a bit...Springs or caps will do the trick (or both, if you want really low).

Eibach cancelled Gen 1 Vipers lowering spring kits. None are available anywhere except Gen 2-3-4. So I installed a custom kit made by HyperCoil for Gen 1.
Same price, same lowering. Great quality company.

I did just the springs. I felt the caps as well would be too low. I kept the stock wheel/tire setup. Here are a few shots of the car just after it was installed. The car has come down a bit further after this. I did the install... write up is here:

I love the look and while I have to be a bit more careful about driveway entrances and speed bumps (a lot of "angled entrances" on those going over over one tire at a time) I love the look and improved handling it gives me. I would definately recommend doing it. If you are concerned about ride height, then just don't do the caps as well. You should be fine.

Great looking setups everyone! I wonder if anybody on here managed to get a set of the correct BC coils. I want a set but there are a few issues with receiving the correct forks and just receiving the coils in general. Guys have been waiting months for them. I'd really like a set of adjustables but I think the BC's are the only reasonably priced set. What do the entry level MCS go for? I guess that would be the next option.

My shocks were in good condition, the car was just shy of 40K miles when I did mine. You should be fine but you can have them checked. Just make sure the mechanic increases the rebound setting on the shocks.

Since the spring rates increase with the Eibachs, you should increase the damping. In short, make the shocks "stiffer". You don't have to go full hard, but definitely more damping. I added more damping all around, but have kept the rears softer than the front. Given the "lively" nature of the Vipers, leaving the rears a little softer should make it more stable under acceleration. In short, I went with the rears set to setting 2 or one full turn from full soft. The fronts at setting 3 or one and a half turns.

STAY AWAY FROM BC COILS. YOU OWN A VIPER DONT GO CHEAP. Those are universally damped and are made overseas for cheap labor. DO NOT SUPPORT KNOCK OFFS.

You might as well just do springs if all you want is a value drop

I was pleased with BC Coilovers for Gen 2 suspension. Very good value for money product. They are made in Taiwan and carry a vehicle-life warranty. Fully height adjustable and rebound adjustable to 30 settings. Front spring rates are 560lb/ft, rear spring rates are 860lb/ft.

The car feels very responsive and is well planted. Minimal body roll and a very useful rake front-to-rear at 1.5". Height dropped by 2" rear and 1.5" front. I strongly recommend them for a street driving and occasional track days.

Thanks guys. It seems that everyone who got a set says they're great bang for the buck. I'm not looking to track the car, but would appreciate something a level above a bare bones drop. I doubt I'll be able to get my hands on a set anyway so I'm sitting back and waiting for either something new to come up or the issues to be resolved.

MCS Stage 1 set-up going on my GEN 1.5 Viper as we speak. Dropping in no more than 1" all around and will be on softest setting for street cruising. If I do get to the track, just a few clicks away from stiff. Have a ton of stuff going on the Viper so hopefully I can report something soon and get the car back in a few weeks.

I agree with one of the other posters that very quality Parts should be used. If you are going to push the car to it's limits, don't you want piece of mind you are safe? I did which is why I bought what I bought. Then again I bought a set up used with 800 miles in it. So I am thrifty (cheap) too and understand.

Wow, you'd think that the Viper doesn't need lowering as it looks so low anyways, but dropping the beast an inch makes all that difference. Awesome rides guys.
