So, I was thinking about picking one up. I have been safe so far because I am pretty paranoid with my speeds but I would rather be prepared well in advance. (Plus I like gadgets) I know that they aren't legal in Ontario but am curious anyways. I know the police are using spectre to sniff out the old style detectors but there has been a couple detectors out there that claim they can beat it. Does anyone have any experience with them?

They work great.. They save your ass most of the time, I wouldn't drive my cars without them

I have the Escort 9500xi. It's features include gps tracking for the annoying radar traps the cities will set up at regular locations. It also notifies locations of light cameras.

I have the Escort 9500CI installed in my Daily DD, and a Windshield Mount Escort 9500IX in my SUV. I love the 9500CI and don't think anything touches it honestly. With the GPS functionality of camera's being added daily. Escort does have a ESCORT LIVE app for smartphones I use with my IX when in my SUV.

Hands down when I am able to purchase a snake, it will be the 9500CI without a doubt.

Laser jammers are the key here in Canada. You would need that along with a detector. carry a cheap 20 dollar detector with you and if the police pull you over, and detect your radar, give them the cheap one and pull out the good one. The Laser jammer installed in your car will go undetected because the Poiice will think it was the detector that jammed his Gun and so you hand over the cheap one and your on your way.

When the police clock laser you, they find a blank screen on their gun. Thus they think you have something jamming their signal. they pull you over and want to inspect. That is when you give up a cheap radar detector which makes them happy and your on your way. Otherwise, when they inspect and find your laser jammer set up which cost hundreds, you crap out of luck and they rip it out. Your better off carrying an old worthless radar detector which you can give up and make them happy then having them rumble through your car only to find the jammer and your expensive detector.
Makes sense no?

I guess they may do that in Canada.I have never been pulled over after jamming the signal. Here in the states lasers are regulated by the FDA so it isn`t illegal to run one.I have been targeted at 90+ in a 55 and they didn`t budge at all.Sounds like it`s a lot more complicated where you are .

It is. Of course here everything radar is illegal. Detectors jammers etc. you get caught with one you get a fine and your item confiscated.

after a 1500 mile drive picking up my viper from plumcrazy, I was sold and bought my own. I'm preparing to buy a second. I spend a LOT of time in my truck and it has saved me hundreds if not thousands when I couldn't see the cops. Valentine 1. I had it sitting in the same truck with me, same position on the windshield and the valentine picked up radar signatures a good .5 to full second before it. worth the twice the cost.

Canada Drivers PLEASE take your advice from fellow Kanucks...... I drive thru BC rarely (and once on Al-Can) and felt very vulnerable in BC and YK without my Valentine One....

I love the "throw-away" detector idea, and had I thought if it I would have had an old cobra unit handy and handed that over rather than drive un-protected. Valetine One (the arows and rabge) for me Please

If you live in an area where radar detectors are illegal (Virginia, Washington DC & some countries including most of Canada) and you can afford $469.95 then the Beltronics STi Magnum is the unit for you. In areas where detectors are illegal enforcement uses RDD's (Radar Detector Detectors) to find vehicles using radar detectors. The Beltronics STi Magnum is immune to all RDD technologies.

Friend of mine has that exact unit. Maybe bought it from you if you sell them. The police still catches the signal from the detector. He detects the trap with the detector and then jams the signal with the laser jammer and immediately turns the jammer off. Police see a blank screen on their laser gun and most think its a fault , other more experienced officers realize the problem and pull you over to check. At that point they don't know exactly what their looking for. All they know is that you have something that interfered with their equipment. they will dismantle your vehicle if need be. To avoid that, you show them your cheap broken radar detector that you can get from broken electronics stores or salvage and hand it over. they feel they found the culprit and feel good about themselves only to have been duped.

If you don't carry a dummy detector, they will search for what jammed their lazer and will eventually find your laser jammer (cost @700 for some) or, he'll find your expensive Beltronics STI Magnum worth @500. You don't want that to happen.

Best way to keep the cops from getting you is....get this...here goes...you won.t believe this.....Don't speed !! be smart and give it at the right spots and times. Not in traffic or in past trap zones. If your going to let her have it for any reason, do so for a short burst. Most that get caught speeding are cruising at the higher speed for minutes or even longer at a time. Come on, use common sense. Use your speed to prove a point, not to get somewhere fast. Leave earlier for that and avoid the rush. You'll be luck to get a speeding ticket when in a rush or not paying attention to your speed. You could hurt innocent people and that is the biggest BS !!
