So the manual says change every 6k, and I received information that the 6k period was fine based on 15k durability testing, and a recommendation to use 15W50 Mobil 1, any comments?

15w50 if you are running it like a scalded dog. ow40 for normal use every 3 or 4 k miles- I would not run 6k, but im shure for putting around will not hurt it

oil changes are cheap insurance.. not sure why push the limit. that said i do the oil change on the viper about every 2k, and on my daily driver every 3k.

One other note on oil. Everyone please check your oil level regularly, at least once every 1000 miles. I had some oil consumption issues early on that I think are resolved. I don't want anyone else to have to deal with the same. For people who only drive 1500 miles a year and change it yearly they may never notice, but because this generation is easier to drive daily a lot more people are going to be putting more miles on each year.

I daily drive and put on plenty of miles, not sure why to waste the $ when it would just be changing according to the manual, which should be fine.

Does regular "performance checks" count as putting around or running like a scalded dog?

My grandfather always told me "check your oil everytime you fill up with gas"
Need to start taking his advice lol!

I changed mine at 1100 and 5000. I'll probably stick to every 4000-5000 if I am not tracking it

the owners manual states you should check the oil every fuel stop. i love people that want to 'follow the manual' when it comes to oil changes, yet they refuse to do everything the manual states.
*rant off* i get a lot of customers that push the car to 8000 miles for every oil change and the motor ticks/knocks cause there is no oil left in the crankcase.

I had similarly heard about some of these cars having some consumption issues, maybe just early, but definitely good to note.

Did my second oil change today. I changed it first time after five months. Today's service was just shy of six months from then. I actually trusted my local Dodge dealer with it since they had a Viper Tech. It took about an hour and I waited for it as was recommended by lots of viper folks.
