I badly want to go - but my boss is on personal vacation through that time period and doesn't return until late the next week. For support coverage, we both can't be out of the office at the same time so it looks like I'm out. :(
I was talking to Brittany about it the other day and didn't realize the schedule conflict until then.

Just a quick reminder. Registration for NVE1 (National Homecoming Event) in Detroit opens TODAY @ 3:00PM EST.
This is an action packed multi-day event with a lot of activities including a tour of the Viper plant, visiting the Viper store, Chelsea Proving Grounds, the Chrysler museum, etc. This is also a spouse friendly event with classy dinners, a riverboat cruise, and more.
If you plan to attend, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you register online as close to 3:00pm as possible. We were warned on the President's call last week that they expect this to sell out in "hours". There are only 500 registrations accepted and they estimate each member will likely register a guest. If that hold true, that means there will only be ~300 available registrations out of 1,600+ VOA members!!! Register fast to avoid disappointment. Remember you can win a 2013 SRT Viper Launch Edition just by attending this event...1 in < 500 chance. Spouses are also eligible so I bet it will be closer to a 1 in 300ish chance! I'd LOVE to see someone from our region win this car!!! How great would that be?
Event Registration Here: https://driveviper.com/nve/register.php
Hotel Reservation Here: http://cwp.marriott.com/dtwpo/viper/
Let's show our Carolina VOA spirit! I will be booking my room from Thursday July 17th - Monday July 21st. The room is only $99 per night for the first 3 nights....and $159 for the 4th night.
We will organize a Viper convoy from the Carolinas to Detroit once we get closer. Yes, it is a long trip, but being in a convoy of Vipers will make it a fun ride. We will likely join other regional caravans.
Please send me an e-mail the moment you register so I know you are attending. Can't wait!

Okay, we have arranged a convoy from the Carolinas to Detroit, MI on Thursday, July 17th. There are two meeting locations established based on the members attending the event:
Thursday, July 17th:
Meeting Location #1: Arrive 7:00am - Depart 7:15am
Sheetz in Mebane, NC which is Exit 154 off I-40.
Meeting Location #2: Arrive: 8:45am - Depart 9:00am
Virginia Welcome Center off I-77N
Assuming all goes well, we should arrive in Detroit sometime in the early evening. We do plan to stop for lunch, dinner, and take a couple of breaks along the way.
We may also be joined by members from Florida and Georgia. If you haven't seen Seth's post in the forums, please check out the 2-way radios many of us will be using during the convoy and consider picking up a set. If you do not have a chance to purchase a set, we may have a couple floating around you can borrow. Seth's post below:
http://driveviper.com/forums/threads/4129-Radio-Purchase-Recommendation
Please post up if you plan to take part in the convoy....or not so we can look for you! Can't wait....gonna be a great time!

I had thought about leaving earlier and hauling ass, but may join the convoy, though with a hotel already booked in Detroit for Thursday, rather than going through the hassle of changing to Dayton per the recent message, I plan to just go to Detroit.

Guys, watch yourselves in Virginia - the Troopers are EVERYWHERE and they don't mess around. Seems like everytime I go through that state all we see are troopers with cars pulled and troopers sitting on the sides of the highway.
Also, radar detectors are illegal in the state if I remember correctly..

Your memory is absolutely correct, Patrick, about the radar detectors. The troopers hide in the "chicken coops" located every mile between the north/south lanes. The convoy will gather a lot of radio attention upon 1st sight...
No $20 tickets in VA, Craig! :police-car-004: ;)

VA cops are common just north of the border on I95, I85, I77, etc., and generally can be found hiding along the I77/I81 routes one takes from NC to WV. There are cop "holes" just before and just after each exit and periodically otherwise typically on VA highways, and they typically hide in those (most often in the ones after the exit rather than before, else people could try to sneak off the exist before caught) or back up the highway on-ramps, waiting with instant-on radar. (Consequently, many slow down to about 8 MPH over as they approach the cop hole before an exit, cruise until they pass the cop hole after the exit and then speed up, and repeat.)
Radar detectors are illegal in VA, but last time I checked, they were a low cost non-moving violation with no license/insurance points, as opposed to a speeding ticket, so the choice on whether to use them is obvious. However, one may consider to immediately unplug them after getting a "hit" on the detector, in case they have a radar detector detector running. Also, running trapster or waze can be very helpful along highly trafficked areas such as those highways, though no guarantee, and nothing beats awareness of your surroundings.
Cops are pretty bad in VA, and I believe the recent 70 MPH zones did not result in an increase on what is considered reckless, i.e., 80 MPH, so once you are speeding enough for a ticket at the those speed limits, you are already driving reckless too?! On the plus side, unlike Wake/Durham county, driving school is often an option for VA speeding tickets (at least not more than 15-20 MPH over, can't guarantee it though, especially at 100+.)
But even worse than VA cops are OH cops!!

yeah i ve been warned a LOT about OH cops, i hope everything goes smooth...
If you get ticketed in VA over 100 mph, you'll be given food, lodging, and all the companionship you want courtesy of VA taxpayers. A buddy of mine found that out the hard way.

Ohio State Troopers are tough on speeders, including other law enforcement officers on-duty. I was driving a police package Crown Vic with three radio antennas and blue lights front/rear windows while driving 60 in a 55 on a four-lane highway. Trooper was meeting me from the opposite direction and I watched through the rear-view mirror as he locked it up, cut across 300 feet of median, rooster-tailing grass and dirt, and accelerated over 100 mph behind me. I figured he'd received an emergency response to a DOA accident. But, NO!!!! He pulls in behind me and beeps his siren. I pull over - duh - and he approaches. My hands are spread open above the steering wheel and I advise him I'm a federal agent and armed. His hand goes to his sidearm and he instructs me to provide license, registration, and credentials. Okay, license and credentials are no problem, but nobody knows where to find the registration records for a government vehicle. To further complicate the matter, the plates on the car are suppressed and come back as "unknown" to local agencies, a sure sign/indicator of law enforcement.
The trooper asked me if I knew why he pulled me over. I said, "No, sir!" He said I was doing 60 in a 55 mph zone. I said, "Yes, sir, I probably was." He wanted to know what my hurry was, and I explained that I was en route to a crime scene, but it was not considered an emergency requiring lights/siren. He told me to go on my way, but to "slow it down." Note: 2 other agents received citations for speeding 8 and 10 miles over the speed limit - on duty and in g-rides - in the next 3 months.
Some history is called for here. I believe that during the early '80s the Ohio State Troopers wanted to become part of the Sheriff's Association in Ohio and were denied because they were not considered investigators, just "traffic cops." The war began...
But prior to all this, Ohio troopers were known to be tough on all speeding over the posted limits.
In Michigan, those guys are pretty cool...

I don't agree with "professional courtesy" among officers, sets them apart from the rest of the people, sometimes inappropriately, but I do agree with common courtesy, which some officers seem to lack, by treating the ordinary citizens they encounter the vast majority of the time like "common" criminals.

What I mean, when I say "Professional Courtesy" comes with common sense. Driving 100+ MPH/DUI/Accidents - no room for judgement citation deserved - other small infractions where it is a personal call of the officer as to issue a warning ticket or a court summons I think "Professional Courtesy should apply. Don't want you to think that I believe that all LEOs can break traffic laws - flash their B&C - and drive away.

I'm not sure what business, if any, you might be involved in, but officers are held to a higher standard than "the rest of the people" by most of the "ordinary citizens" they encounter who feel they are "ordinary criminals" because they got caught speeding, running a light, crashing into someone while on their cell phone/texting, etc. However, do officers whine and complain every time they don't get a better deal from the local car dealer (to another salesman); a better APR on a loan (to another bank employee); a better deal on ANY commodity (to those who sell similar commodities), etc?
I know there are some unscrupulous law enforcement officers out there, as I spent 18 years conducting and supervising IAD investigations; however, not a single officer I was ever involved with became a law enforcement officer for the express reason to do anything illegal. The same reasons "ordinary citizens" become "ordinary criminals" is the same as officers becoming criminals: drugs; alcohol; gambling; sex; etc. EXCEPT, when officers lie, their integrity comes into question and affects their careers. "Ordinary citizens" can lie to their heart's desire and it probably will never affect their career, or it really doesn't matter. The higher standard issue, again.
Do you have the same issues with getting a better deal on buying cars, loans, or anything than officers who probably make a whole lot less money for 100 times the stress and danger they face from "ordinary citizens" each day?
Sorry, Slaughterj. I loved being a cop, I hated bad cops. Not ALL cops are without fault, but a huge majority are trying their best every day to protect and serve their communities, which I can't say for our ordinary citizens.
I apologize, Slaughterj, for my lack of professional courtesy, as the case may be, with your viewpoint, but this issue is dear to me as I highly respect those who have to deal with criticism each and every time they go to work for doing their job.
How often do the rest of the people show officers "common courtesy" when they've been caught in the wrong? Again, sorry, a rhetorical question...

This was a fabulous event. With over 200 Vipers in attendance, it was UNBELIEVABLE!!! The roaring of V-10's could be heard day and into the late night hours. The Vipers occupied about 75% of the hotel's parking lot which was HUGE. The museum was outstanding. Seeing how much labor detail goes into the Gen V paint at Prefix was very amazing.....and my favorite event was driving my Viper around the Chelsea providing grounds oval at 150+ mph!!! But THE BEST part was enjoying the company of Viper friends old and new. Pics below!

Ok, I'm FINALLY done editing the pictures from the Detroit trip. Sorry it took so long, had to go through over 600 and from there, pick the best from those and do a bit of touch up. The pictures I've decided to post are unique to me because #1 hopefully nobody else got these and #2 it's just something fun and different to see. Just way too many to post on here.
Here is the link to the rest of the pictures that made the list of awesomeness:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C05D00A8C1563CA4!642&authkey=!AGiTRxnuV5Zpcaw&ithint=folder%2cJPG
I will also post some in a bit of friendly faces :) ENJOY!
