I just picked up 96 GTS with 12k miles in North Carolina a few weeks ago and drove it back home to NorCal. It was a great trip, and a very fun way to take my first drives in a Viper -- the open roads of Kansas, Colorado, and Utah were a blast! 3300 miles, no issues, and 0 tickets -- just 3 warnings for no plates and ~4% tint on the side windows (which is coming off soon), and the alarm going off too many times, including 2:00am and 4:30am outside my hotel window in the middle of nowhere because of the apparently common hood switch needing adjustment...
Got home and put an order into Viper Parts Rack, and mentioned that I just joined VCA in case there were any discounts. Got a call from Jon B the next day telling me he should _increase_ the price of the order for my order since I joined VCA, and he gave me the background and history of everything. I called my credit card company two days after I joined VCA to do a chargeback and to cancel that membership (since VCA's member phone line didn't pick up or return my calls over the course of two days), and now I'm here!

Very simple: Good former customer sold the 96 GTS beauty to this new customer, and suggest he call me. He resides squarely in the NORCAL region footprint. What would any honest person suggest he do with his $115 ? ************* Spend it at PartsRack!
Welcome DH - beautiful Viper

Great story, great new member, great vendor helping you, and some great pics.
Made me laugh, needed that. Welcome to the club!!
Gorgeous pics! Epic viper vintage!
Welcome aboard. No doubt there are several others that didn't make the "club u-turn" as quickly as you.
Nor-Cal is an excellent region. But they've got some serious competing photographers out there. ;)

Welcome Daniel!
Cross country trips in a new to you car = Priceless!
I did CC once in a Prowler, I had way too much fun. Took 8 days to meander home, I should have stretched it to 14 days... LOL

An Icon on iconic roads. Isn't that ironic. Poetry in motion.
I don't have to tell you how the 96 B/W is all that and then some. SRT did it for us when they designed the new car in respect to this one.
Enjoy that beautiful car and be careful doing it.

Welcome. Can't beat the B&W's.
An American car crossing America -- great photos! Glad to see you found a nice ride from NC. Enjoy the ride and welcome to the VOA!
You got a few things right;
- Right car
- Right way to transport - driving cross country
- Right vendor
- Right club
Welcome and Enjoy it. I've been putting the cross country drive for way too long. Will definitely do it, just hope it is soon.

Thanks, guys! Only got small things from JonB to start with -- shift skip eliminator and the removable/rubber front plate bracket (will be handy to keep in the trunk since CA "requires" front plates). Want to get all the minor fixes out of the way first ;)
Picked the car up about 20 minutes outside of Raleigh, NC, and I agree that I should have planned for more than about 8 driving days. Wasn't unbearable by any means, but would have been nice to avoid driving in torrential rain coming out of St. Louis, MO. Also to have recharged the A/C before I experienced Utah/AZ/NV. Had a lot of fun through all the small mid-western towns where whenever I stopped, at least three people would come over to talk about the car or want to take pictures of it. Was a nice change from the CA mentality.
Looking forward to reading up on the how-tos, and to meet some of you when I can make it out to an event!

LOL, well that how it starts. Small things first like Sneaky Pete valve stem caps and seat belt shoulder pads........then k&n filters, cats, exhaust, headers, heads, intake, tuning....eventually twin turbos. It's an addiction. :smilielol:

Yep! The seller I bought from put on high-flow cats, catback, smooth tubes, and k&n filters (all from JonB). I have a list of things I "need", but I'll try to pace myself before my credit cards catch on fire..

Actually, my credit cards have been known to take themselves out of my wallet, make their way to my computer and buy things for the Viper all on their own. There is nothing you can dot stop it. Congratulations on your first viper and joining the right club. Good people here who can help you with every possible facet of this car. And I love the blue and white. It just never goes out of style. Sounds like you had a good drive. I found my GTS and now my current GEN III to be surprisingly comfortable for long trips. Given the aggressiveness of the car and what it is built for, I rather enjoy some long drives and didn't ever feel "crammed in" to an exotic like I do in my friends Lotus or Ferarri. Especially if you are taking your time and finding the scenic route, these cars can be great for touring. And that GTS fits a surprising amount of stuff in the cargo area.
Congratulations and welcome.
