View Full Version : I feel bad for SRT

I am scouting for a new vehicle for my wife. She likes the Grand Cherokee. The Overland is what has the options she likes. I'd gladly throw in some extra cash for her if I can get a good deal on an SRT and upgrade from an Overland.
But, local dealers have $5,000 ADM on top of the MSRP. Even SRT Challenger's have $5,000 markups.
All of this after $50,000 ADM for Vipers. Granted the JGCSRT probably moves a lot faster than the Viper. But, it is still the point.
It just turns me off to the brand even more.

That has nothing todo with the brand, that is straight up greedy dealers. Shop around and find a dealer that will sell MSRP. They are out there. Taking business away from greedy dealers will help put an end to this up charging crap.

Agreed. Roanoke has a red JGC SRT on their floor for $5K under MSRP.

It has a lot to do with the brand.
If the dealer marks up the car and it sits longer than someone who would knock $1000 off MSRP, it means SRT is building less of them.
It looks bad on SRTs part, it doesn't help the brand image at all.

Interesting, I'm running into the same sentiment as I'm looking for a JG SRT myself.

We are leaning towards the Overland, simply because I mean, we don't really need the SRT.
But, if the price was right...
I told the GM he was crazy, as I can have the car shipped to my door for $5000 under MSRP. This same dealer didn't contact me to order a Viper Nov2012... They sat on theirs for 9 months and sold for well under invoice.
These guys act like the internet doesn't exist.

You don't NEED either. Sure the upscale models have a lot of neat stuff but the Laredo is very well equipped and it get's 23mpg and will tow 5,000lbs. You can do a lot with the $25-35k you save and you will still have a very nice JGC.

Quit supporting/shopping at that dealer. I'm in Texas, bought my Z06 new in Michigan. I rarely buy local any more.

Mark; you guys able to do the Maggie on an 14' or 15' yet. I just hated the old 5spd auto. That tranny was a POS in my 07' SRT8 Jeep. The new 14' just doesn't have enough oomph to pull the trigger at 470 but does have the 8spd tranny. Potential Hellcat drivetrain is only remaining thing it is missing IMHO. Wife likes the Durango over Jeep and is jaded from the 07' SRT8 after our poor experience we had. I think I can work on her for a new Jeep SRT8 if the package is 100% what we want. Right now it is still way down on power. Just curious where things are at for that?
To OP, go back to Texas dealer as I suspect they will give you a great deal on new Jeep SRT8. I mean you bought a new Viper from them after all.

I don't think so you want a diesel. Besides you can't curb an SRT that is sacrilege .:dude3:

I just bought a new jeep wrangler unlimited from Pemberton. The local idiots tried to stick me full price and a crppy trade price. I had the deal worked with Bill in 10 minutes and delivery driver got it to me 2 days later. Signed 5 documents and the driver was back on his way north! Got to love it!

The 5spd really is a POS. Can't believe they rushed out th '12 and '13 with it

Gotta disagree with you there. Ratios are spaced a bit odd, but it performs well in my 07 SRT8, as in MANY other cars, and they are pretty bulletproof.

Nothing out for tuning the S/C past the 13' models yet, and even though the 12-13 can be done it is proving less than plug and play lol. We are trying to work with them to move forward though.

I counter that. Same 5spd in my '12 SRT8 jeep. Yes thay can hold some power but I'm tired of the "Wait should I downshift...hesitate...hesitate...upshift, nope err downshift..ahh there thats where I should be" performance.
Guess I need to drive it harder:confused:

Maybe the heavier Jeep is different, but I concur with swexlin. The transmission programming on my 2010 300C SRT8 seems pretty well spot-on to me. It will hold a gear, downshift or upshift as expected. I used to think I could do better with the auto stick feature until I almost got smoked once because I didn't go down one more gear like I later found leaving it in "D" woulda done.
I'm sure the 8-speed is better, but I haven't minded the 5-speed at all.

They do have to be driven hard for it to shift well. I notice if I've "grandma-ed" (is that word) it will get a little sluggish shifting. Solution - get onit!! Not always easy to do with the traffic around here. But after some of that, and she goes like stink!
The new 8-speed behind the 6.4 and Hellcat is going to be killer though....!

Hugh? I don't have that problem in my 09 Srt8 Challenger or 11 Ram but I use the slap shift a lot.

Swexlin hit it on the head. In traffic (a ton around here) it throws a fit and feels sluggish. Overtime, it becomes a nuisance

Is there a way to tune the shift points on these?

With both my SRT's I have had a Diablo on them. I thought the transmission tuning differences on the Diablo made it perfect. Not sure what you can do from a custom standpoint on it? But the newer shifting with just the canned tune was good enough for me.

MSRP is a rip off. Buy at invoice. Don't worry about the dealers profit; they'll still make thousands that way with cash back; um I mean dealer hold back. Better yet, buy as second owner.

That's what I have heard. Some have said that the later SRT's ecms are not tuner friendly. Wheels and tires and exhaust is all I have done. Love it!

I was shopping for a daily car too, briefly considered the Jeep SRT8. It was quickly removed from contention in favor of the AMG M Class or BMW X5 M. Too much money for not enough car in my opinion. And then to have dealers charging over MSRP?? Nope nope nope.
FWIW, ended up ordering a Porsche Macan Turbo from a dealer a couple hours from me. Fast as hell, and I don't mind giving up a little storage room. It's not even on the lots yet and he still gave me a price under MSRP. Never thought I'd buy a Porsche...
Matt
I was shopping for grand Cherokees just 2 mos ago, there were SRTs marked down thousands, like $6-8K, I'm in MD. I decided to go with the Overland. The hemi is the only option I needed on it, it comes with everything else, 360hp, I'm avging 21mpg in mixed driving with 2500 mis on it and love the vehicle. It's our 6th Jeep, I also bought a Rubicon at the same time. I got $500 under invoice and 1/2 the holdback dollars on both for a cash deal.
I use the Overland for as a DD & biz vehicle so I wanted the extra lux it offers & it has the Class IV hitch for towing.
Oh and since we're local to each other, I went to Criswell, or rather CrisHell, don't ask me why, they just had the colors I wanted. They effed up on my viper back in the day and they can't even sell a car. They were a total joke. They spent 40 mins talking to each other to give me a price that was bleh, I called a dealership on the phone the next day who called me back 10 mins later with a $5,000 discount, $4,500 better deal, told him to hold it I'd be over to buy. What a joke some dealers are.
