Here is a video of my 2013 Viper (SRT w/ track pack) vs a stock 2012 Corvette ZR1. We ran a few times, and the cars were always dead even. The "winner" boiled down to whichever car took off sooner, with no change in position after the initial hit.

We also ran them at the drag strip the same day, and both cars trapped within 1 mph of each other (Viper faster, 127 vs 126). That was the day I went 10.9 in my car, as the ZR1 had traction issues on the 20" tires. But, trap speeds were similar.

Gen V and ZR1 are basically....identical. It is truly a driver's race between the two. No surprise here, seeing as SRT used the ZR1 as a benchmark, and both are rated the same hp.

The Viper engine always sounds like a sewing machine lol.

Nice comparison , I wonder what the difference would be after a few laps and heat soak on a Road course :bth_smiley_formula1

I can tell you that it made about a 1 1/2 car difference when I ran that same car when it was making 700rwhp to my 615 rwhp. We ran when it was early on the morning and cool and he got me by 3 to 150 mph. Later in the day after sitting in some traffic we ran again and It only pulled 1 to 1 1/2 cars to 150 mph, and I was in an ACR fighting all of that aero up top.

Blower cars do suffer worse heat soak, but only 20-30 hp at this level. Not like it continues to get worse, after that. I made 27 passes at the track that day, all very consistent. NA does have the advantage there.

I had an external corded mic tied near a fuel injector. Sounds funny in that location, ha.

So it appears as though the only difference is that the snake is sexier.

And, in my case, the MSRP was cheaper than the ZR1's MSRP. :)

Nice. I just looked at this 13 leftover. It was a great deal at 30k off.

From the Video it does look like the ZR1 started to gain some round right near the end. I wonder what would have happened if you guys went another 5 seconds longer.

your Viper though...I white...hands down looks the better by far. Good choice in color. I have to say, white is my favorite color on the Viper.

I came out of an 11 ZR1 and into a TA. As the stats go and as the OP stated, its def all about the man in the drivers seat.

The ZR is an absolute amazing machine with lots of low end torque compared to the Viper. The ZR is much more compromising and easier to drive when not driving aggressive - meaning its very comfy in any manner you choose to drive it which you can easily 4get what a beast the car truly is. To me, its not that way in the Viper. The Viper seems to wrap itself around you upon entry and just has a lot of attitude. Although stats are pretty much identical, the Viper is way more intense.

My biggest problem with the ZR, is it should have been easier to identify as the baddest/fastest vette made.
That being said, my orange TA gets WAAAYYYYY more oohs and ahhhs than any vette I've ever owned.

Same thing the other three gears showed. ZR1 pulls up a little, the has to shift sooner, Viper keeps pulling and then shifts. Just a dance between power bands and gearing. Nobody would gain.

Gotcha!!

Again,

The white Gen 5's just have that extra umfff!!....Nice car !! If it were a normal Joe blow racing that ZR1, I bet you it would have been a different outcome. You got the up on most of us.

Just my opinion, but I personally wish the Viper would go back to the 2010 transmission/rear end gearing. 0-150 tests vs the Gen IV in some mags the ZR1 would get eeked out. In what I thought was one of best head to heads in Battle of the Supercars, the 2009 Viper was winning acceleration tests up to 5th gear. We've seen it on the dyno. I think the gearing combination robs just a bit too mich power and hurts the top end acceleration of the car. Anyways, just my opinion. I appreciate you posting this. I wish I could drive half as good as you.

Good runs Tony. I really enjoy seeing these comparisons with good drivers. Magazine stats are worthless on these cars with magazine drivers. These types of videos are what give you good comparisons between models. The snake definitely looks much meaner compared to the ZR1 side by side. That ZR1 needs black headlights bad!
