Vipers Invade Wilmington - May 3rd!

Our next event is just around the corner! Vipers Invade Wilmington is only 2 weeks away....taking place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014!

We'll start the day by cruising into Wilmington's Cars & Coffee at 9:00am to hang out and check out all of the rides. Afterward we'll head over to Wrightsville Beach and have a private lunch at Bluewater (http://www.bluewaterdining.com) which is a waterfront restaurant. The food here is excellent, parking is plentiful, and we plan to have a reserved area for our snakes. After lunch, we'll check out the beach scene by cruising the "Wrightsville Loop" and then head over to a fellow Viper owner's house (Jay) to socialize and hang in his "man cave". Thank you for the open invitation Jay! Tom Sessions (Premier Viper Tech) also plans to join up with us at Jay's to hang out and field any technical questions you may have about your cars. Lastly, we'll leave Jay's house and take a cruise up Old Maple Hill Road which is a popular road in the area among car and motorcycle enthusiasts.

Below is the general itinerary for the day. Times may fluctuate slightly depending on traffic or the fun factor. :)

9:00am - 11:15am: Wilmington Cars & Coffee
11:30am - 1:00pm: Lunch @ Blue Water
1:00pm - 1:30pm: Cruise the Wrightsville Beach Loop
2:00pm - 3:30pm: Hang out at Jays / Tech Session / etc.
4:00pm - 5:00pm: Maple Hill Run(s)

We already have 5 members who have confirmed attendance before announcing the event. I'll let them make their mark. Who's in? Let's GO! :)

The weather is looking perfect for this event. Heck, I'll even bring extra sunscreen so Brian doesn't end up with the raccoon-eye syndrome again. :)

Regarding the drive over, would it make sense to have a meet-up at the highway rest area on I-40 near Garner? For folks in Raleigh and west of Raleigh, there is a church right at the intersection of 540 and Six Forks Rd that would make for a good meeting place. From Six Forks/540 it looks like 2 hours, 10 minutes of driving.

One thought too...the construction area on 440 near I-40 is a total mess. The amount of gravel on the roadway is unreal the last time I was on that road (maybe a month ago). An alternative is to drive through Raleigh, get cheap gas south of town on South Saunders Street, then take 70 to I-40. This will add 10 minutes (make it 20 for gas stop) to the trip but it will keep our Vipers from getting stoned to death.

Thanks for reminding me, Craig! Hope you have room in your trunk for my quadrant, sextant, and hour glass. My compass is rather small, and I'll keep it with me, but the needle is rather sensitive to the bumps and lateral motion of your great yellow sea serpent. :witless: (NOW!!! No taking this out of context...) And clouds may pose a problem, as I believe our early departure is calling for some cloudiness. But we shall persevere!

It will be an honor to guide our fleet to the great coastal area of the Carolinas' region!!! Vipers AHOY!!!

This event was fantastic...the largest turnout of the year so far! I have lots of pics which I will post later today.....and video too!

This was the LARGEST showing of Vipers so far this year with 18 cars in attendance! Kudos to our club....especially those who traveled the distance in an effort to visit our friends in Wilmington. We had 10+ cars from Raleigh area and Dave managed to leave Winston Salem at 5:00am so he could be with us. Dave, you are the man!

A big thank you to Lance as he was instrumental in the planning and execution of this event. The restaurant choice for lunch was fantastic. The food was phenomenal and being right next to the water made it all the better. Jay, thank you for opening the door of your family "man cave" for us to view the beautiful Corvettes, and we love your FE Viper too. :) It was really great to see Tom Sessions and hang with him for the day as well. Again, a BIG THANKS to all of these guys.

It was great to finally meet our newest members...Emmett & Cathy, and of course Al & Kristy. We also had a few guests on board including Frank, Don, Tim, and Cody that may be joining club.

Oh, and the lunch donation request we trialed at this event worked perfectly. So many of you were very generous and significantly lessened the expense for the club. What a GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE!

Thanks to you and the Raleigh/Triad crowd for coming down - I can't tell you how much fun we had - it was truly a blast. I think there was a high degree of skepticism on the Wilmington cars and coffee facebook site that we could put together that many snakes - we did that and then some! The quality of cars was amazing. Thanks again to Jay for hosting at his man cave and thanks again to Tom for coming out to indulge us with his knowledge. The pictures are great - We would love to make this a yearly event and we have plenty of real estate to visit on the coast. Look forward to seeing y'all at the next event!
