More action on gen 5 forum so I'll post it here
so I'm thinking to make a custom rear diffuser, aluminum or titanium, and I'd like something with an agressive look while being efficient at the same time of course.
My question is, would it be a good idea to have horizontal plates, with a slight angle, between the plates so it makes some kind of air tunnels ? Or only vertical plates/wings are efficient?
I'm just thinking about some rear downforce since I don't have aero (gen 3 roadster)
can't really find the answer here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffuser_(automotive)

in fact, the design could very well be like the ''double-decker'' design in F1

(which was banned lol)

There is a lot that goes into diffusers and a little difference can make a big impact. It's not just a simple airfoil like most wings.
If you're really worried about functionality, I'd copy the ACR diffuser or do a lot of very detailed CFD. Even wind tunnel wouldn't be that great because you wont have the effect of the ground moving relative to the car.
Also, I'd definitely make it out of plastic, not aluminum or Ti. You want the strake to be the weakest link (and a cheap one). They're basically a wear item.

looks like the one that 13COBRA is pointing out is made of carbon fiber, and strakes not modular
not exactly a cheap option for a wear item!
and yes, Lawineer, I'm sure you're 100% right about that whole diffuser thing being very tricky. The stock ones on my gen 3 roadster are very simple 1/16'' aluminum laser cut pieces

Yup, lol, just wrap it if you want it took like carbon.

Stock ones. Very basic stuff, 2mm thick aluminum. Easy to make by laser cutting

you probably have 3x or 4x more surface on a gen 5 ACR...

I bet you can source those through Autozone.

Titanium????
What for the bolts?
Weil if you were able to cobble some fins up.
Just think of the pretty white sparks they would make when they drag on the pavement.lol

I got Ti strips I'm going to cut up and make little "tabs" at the ends of my strakes to make white sparks :D

Ti probably overkill since aluminum would be stiff enough I think...
that being said, why some choose carbon..? more expensive and fragile than Ti

Why use anything but plastic?
They don't bear any load

oh but there is probably some air pressure on these, especially at 120mph in Dallas

It's a lot less about look, and a lot more about function.

Not really. They direct air. They dont bear much load.
