Removing fuel from tank

What's the best way to get old fuel out of my 97GTS gas tank? Its been sitting for 2 years.

I have a 20 gallon gas caddie/container that I use for the mowers and tractors, it can pump gas out as well as gas in. On my race cars where I want to save the gas I just use a xcheap ($15) 12 volt fuel pump with a length of 1/4 inch rubber hose and pump it in to a can.

No I blew it on that.

I would do what JWolf suggests first, remove as much of old gas out of the tank via a siphon(motorized). Make sure to do this outside or in a very well ventilated area.

Be careful that you don't get the tube stuck when you try to pull it back out of the tank. After you have removed what you can (it may still be partially good, but you will need to add a gallon to each full tank you run)

Once you have removed what fuel you can, fill up with the highest octane fuel you can find i.e. 94 and add some Startron fuel stabilizer. It will help rephaze any of the old fuel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, does the tube that goes down into the tank not have a baffle like system that allows flow into the tank but restricts anything getting out. In other words. If you put a hose down into the pipe, it will go down but it won't get back up because the baffle will grip onto it and or get stuck open and thus allow gas to come back out during sharp turns .

I'm not very savvy regarding this but, im sure someone who knows the mechanics of the gas pipe into the tank, will chime in and either tell me to S@#T the hell up or ...your right !!

As per my service manual, section 14, Draining Fuel Tank, step 1, release fuel system pressure; step 2, insert siphon hose; step 3, siphon fuel. Shouldn't be that great of a problem.

Just remember to attach a ground wire between the car and the fuel catchment to eliminate static discharge dangers when transferring fuels. Also be sure can is on the ground. Pump away.....
