My car acr e 2016 with 4050miles have not been driven for 3 - 5 years, and 5 year since it came from bj motors to me here in Norway.
Now its getting on the road....
I also had a gen 4 viper before.
But now the steering wheel is feeling a bit to heavy.
When grabbing the wheel and start engine , the sterringwheel getting eacier to turn, but far away from other (european) cars.
Could it Bee the PS fluid that is the problem
The car is stored in warmed up garage all time.
Or somebody heared about rack / pump problems when stored on gen v?
The car is heavy to steer when parking, but also same way of heavy when driving at 60mph.
What type PS fluid and amount is recomended?.
My golf mk7 2.0tdi is turning steering wheel with one finger , when turning steeringwheel on PS.
Please help.

Check the tire pressures, the serpentine belt, and the fluid level in the P/S reservoir.
The P/S fluid is ATF+4.

I have checked the tire airpressure ok, the level in the p/s fluid ok, not checked belt.
But have Reading that conrction joint in the steeringcolumb is ofte a reason for heavy steeringwheel.
My acr- e had a ARH headers on it before I bought it., and the heat from that can be extremly for fusebox, but also steering columb joint.
Have any of you heard about issues with heat destroys the joint in st.columb.
When I see the nurburing viper taking off, they also turn steeringwheel as its pretty light to turn.
Mine must grad hard and use force, but i can feel the steering getting help from pump when I starting the car, so its not like its total missing the power steering.
I dont understatement this, car is 4000miles,
Sitting untouched for 5 years ( startet twice a year) how can this happening,, also read that the PS system is lifetime filled with fluid.( no change of fluid is realy nessesary).
Please help.

I might still try to flush the power steering fluid given the car has sat so long. I would also grease ball joints and any other points on front suspension. Maybe grease has dried out.

This will help me find the problem.
I have to use some time with this isue .
I will also remove the ARH headers/ belanger HF cats and exhaust, and go back to stock exhaust, and check all wiring for the 4 pcs of o2. This aftermarked exhaust is same as barbecue for electric wire and plastic components.
To loud , but will miss the pop's from the exhaust .

Check the thread where a guy is wanting to buy exhaust. Might be advantageous for the both of you.

How hard is it to steer?
Today I did a test. Its possible the steering is normal.( a bit heavy)
I lifted the front with two Jack.( both front wheel in the air).
Now I can turn steeringwheel with one finger.
Almost same force needed with, and without engine running.
When turn wheels with hands, the steeringwheel turning.
I think There is no mechanical problem with the steeringwheel coloumb, joint in wheel up/ down.
Belt is as new, red fine colour fluid.
So if there is a problem at all, maybee the force from p/s pump is a bit to low.( or maybee normal)
When I lover the car, and try to turn steeringwheel with one finger, its to hard, must grab it with the whole hand to turn. ( when standing still).
Can yours acr-e be turned with force from only one finger in the spoke when the car standing still ?
Or do you have to grab it with one hand.
Possible all the acr-e are a bit heavy on steering, compared to normal cars...
I dont understand the advertising on the viper 2017, that says adaptive power steering, I can not see any sensor or soleonid valves on PS pump or PS rack.
Seems like its a std. system with only PS pump, PS rack and PS Cooler. Thats good.

I'm not sure you have a problem. ACR has the heaviest steering I've ever felt. It's usually hard to do a U-turn with one hand as well
I had a faulty steering rack before, it got very soft on me! Knew I had a problem.
No adaptive/electric power steering. it's hydraulic!

Remember you have wide tires in the front, larger than many cars have in the rear, so steering will feel harder. Maybe you just don't remember how the steering feels given the car has set for years.

Go drive the car for some time,it needs it,may break loose from sitting

The ACR-E is a manly-man brutish car. Everything is big, fat and wide. Tires are very sticky and it takes a lot of force to turn them at low speeds. I would say possible, but doubtful you have a steering problem. You need to drive it more and get the real feel for it.

I'd guess it's perfectly normal.

Thanks I'm sure you are all right this is normal for this car.
The Gen5 has firm; heavy; but smooth steering weight.
It is NOT like your normal, over-boosted "power steering" feel.
It is closer to a manual steering feel overall.

Or do you have to grab it with one hand. Absolutely NOT a 1-finger effort to truly turn the wheel. Not ever.

Seems like its a std. system with only PS pump, PS rack and PS Cooler. Thats good. It is an old school hydraulic rack/pinion with a starndard pump just like you see. Dependable/reliable & no fancy electronics to change the steering weight or feel
