View Full Version : Exhaust install question

When installing headers/exhaust, did any of you tack any of the connections or just use the clamps? I remember some of the Gen 3/4 setups would expand and move slightly causing some people to burn the paint in the exit location if movement was not accounted for. Others would just set the exhaust towards the front of the exit location when cold to account for expansion when hot.

Any suggestions for the V?

Cannot speak to the Gen V, but have done several Gen III and Gen IV exhausts. I know a lot of folks like to use the stainless band clamps, and I had issues with those allowing the catbacks to rotate and get out of center on the side sill holes. I went to using a traditional $5 exhaust "C type" clamp from the auto parts store and mine have never moved again on three different systems. There is plenty of room for the bigger C clamps as well. Hope this helps.

Everything is bolted. There is a rubber isolation hanger with a slide mechanism at the rear, this allows the system to expand.

Just a side note, this was the first 70 degree day I have seen in six months. My car has the Corsa mufflers and full Balenger set up. i took a 100 mile trip and was at 75 mph most of the way. When I exited the car, I tested the sill temps by resting my hand on them, I could keep my hands anywhere on the rockers/sills, in affect, the sill temps are not just lower, they are substantially lower. I will take an infrared picture when I get back home.

I do not know what the downside of a header/exhaust installation would be, but, it sure has an up side (performance, sound, lower temps). What a nice factory option it would make.

I have the same setup as Jack and I would say 50%, be curious to see what he has to say.

I have just corsa and id say a good 25%. Drone is gone at 2000RPM so much more livable.

You are probably right, it is somewhere between 25% and 50% louder. That does not explain the complete change. It has a deeper growl and that raspy sound is gone, I believe that sound comes from that inner sheet metal wall inside the oem headers.

Thanks Jack. Good to hear everything is bolted.

Has anyone installed a full Balenger rather than the Balenger/Corsa combo?

We've done a few Belanger to Corsa Gen V exhaust kits! At idle its hard to tell thats its been modified, cruising at 60 MPH you will notice a slight change but then at WOT its night and day over stock. :)

Since we've got all these installs, I can't hep but ask about numbers, dyno or quarter mile mph??

This seems to the preferred route. Any idea why that is over a full Belanger? I want it as deep as possible.

Corsa was out six months before balenger

It may be more personal preference but my personal opinion is its less drone with the Corsa.

Until we see a Mopar PCM or aftermarket tuning for these cars the gains are minimal.

Do you have a dyno log or is that a guess. The G4 made good gains with the same setup

I can see minimal gains from just a cat back, but I was hoping for some nice gains from headers.

There appears to be 4 available sound levels for the Corsa. For those with the Extreme, how is the sound level during highway cruising speeds?

Can you post and include a/f?

We are still doing some dyno testing with our test car, we hope to post some data very soon.

We did also, about a month ago, but would need permission to do so... hopefully you get the same results ;-)

I've got a brand new Corsa Catback for the Gen V. I used it 2 hours and took it off. It's for sale. LMK if you're interested. $695.
