Gen 1 Viper Develops Tiny Paint Pimples Blisters

My 1992 Gen 1 Viper recently developed very tiny paint pimples or blisters on the drivers side rear quarter panel (topside), door (topside) and trunk lid. There are literally 100's of these very tiny pimples in the paint. Although, I do not see any such pimples on the clamshell hood, which is a good thing. What could be causing this to happen in these areas? Is it the phenomenon of gases escaping from the fiberglass when exposed to heat? Why some areas and not others? Other than a total repaint, what can be done to fix the problem? Will repainting a low miles 1992 Gen 1 Viper bring down the car's value?

Very common on the 92’s. It’s a factory flaw, so if the paint looks good otherwise, I wouldn’t repaint it. Not to mention, they may also come back after having it repainted. Leave the original paint and enjoy that magnificent rough around the edges beast for what it is.

I've discovered them on the upper part of the passenger door back in around 2004 ('94 G1). Haven't gotten worse in the past 18 years and luckily only on the passenger door.

Thanks for your response. I am the original titled owner of my '92 Viper. I bought it in 2000 from an Exotic Car dealer in Westmont IL. Prior to being sold to the dealer in Westmont IL, it passed from dealership to dealership in Florida as a promotional car to bring in customers. It had 600 miles on the odometer when I bought it. It now has a very gentle 4100 miles. With exception for the few paint pimples, the car is perfect. In order to prepare the car for the next 30 years, I recently had the head gaskets replaced (Another Gen 1 flaw), along with all fluids, grease cups and tires. I also had the 10 injectors removed, cleaned out and reinstalled. She snarls like a VIPER and roars like a LION!

The 92 is such a special car. Paint pimples and all. I say leave it as is. Factory flaws are perfectly acceptable.

Your welcome!! Yeah, I wouldn't touch a 4k G1, especially a '92. I'll end up doing mine along with a facia respray, the side sills have corrosion bubbles on the drivers side and some other small areas, but my '94 is at 28k miles

When mine happened I blamed it on Reliable as they moved this one and another Viper from PHX to Cali when I moved. I though maybe something dripped on the car and they gave me a token $200.00 back then.

As I said, they've popped up in '03-'04 and nothing new in close to 20 years. Wonder why yours' just started appearing, did you move? Left in out in the sun or do something different since you got it?
