We skipped a few weeks of pics where we strip the car down to a rolling chassis and remove everything thats not essential. Once we have the chassis almost down to bare bones the first order of business is fabricating a proper cage. Next was fuel cell fabrication and external fuel fill; Then onto driver comfort items, AC driver ducting, installing our adjustable steer column with quickiner and driver adjustable brake biasing system. This is a going to be a street car that the customer will drive to work and to the track on the weekends or open test days; Its not full tilt boogie racecar so our focus was more on exceptional reliability, driver safety, simplicity and easy to live with.

I've always been curious. I know racing is quite an expensive activity, especially on this level. How do teams/shops supplement or recover some of those losses?

Grassroots/amateur racing its usually 100% loss and a tax write off deal. Like the old saying goes " If you want to go racing and spend a small fortune first start with a large one". At the professional level these days the pie has gotten a bit bigger then it was 30 years ago. Smaller professional teams/shops can be legit businesses now dealing with profit and loss ( very small profit). The larger teams in the top tier of their series like F1, NASCAR cup and now some LMP and GT classes the profits far out way the losses.
