I have my 1994 in the shop at Tator's finishing an engine refresh (76,000 miles and wanted to stay N/A) and a year apart from her; and just waiting on a tune. Couldn't find any threads with a compression of 9.3:1 on gen1 to compare. As with all projects: blown budget and longer than expected time in the shop but almost done. (hopefully) Wanted to get some guestimates on potential RWHP with the following mods:

9.3:1 Compression (bump from stock 9.0:1)
Comp Cam
Port/Polish Heads
Belanger Headers
3" Roe Racing Exhaust
Catless
AB Plug Wires
180 Degree Thermo
K&N Filters
Smooth Tubes
Gen1 Injectors (cleaned/serviced)
Harland 1.7 RR
VEC2

Thanks!

Hmmm...The gen 1 stock is getting around 340 rwhp,With all your goodies I would guess around 465rwhp and with a good Dyno tune add about 30 more

Thanks, Martyb! I was hoping for 500+ RWHP with the Port/Polish, bump in compression, Comp Cam and tune. Hopefully Chuck has some magic up his sleeve when he tunes it! I wanted something driveable but able to hold its own against the new 2014 models (ie: Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaro, Charger, M5, etc. - not Viper/GT500). Definitely will post the dyno when tuned so hopefully can assist any Gen1'ers thinking of N/A mods.

James430 - thanks! Should I have bumped the compression to get 500+ rwhp?

I have my 01 Gen 2 in the shop right now,the mods are real close to yours except for the compression bump and I have high flow cats.Three pulls on the dyno for a baseline of 402 rwhp and I'm hoping for around 520 rwhp which is right at 600 hp to the crank like the Gen 4's.....I hope we both get what we are looking for...

I have four year old PS2s on her now and Lots of tread left. Wonder if I need to get new tires?

That is some great numbers, congrats!. Put it on a dyonjet see the difference. Betting it would be 525.

Now go do what really matters, hot the track and make the numbers that really count :D

Great #'s, and on a mustang to boot, thats an easy 500whp car on a dynojet (not that it matters). What does matter is the power under the curve and that 400wtq+ you hold from 2500rpm to redline. Go make some 1/4 passes i bet it hits above its weight class.

Chuck said it has a conservative tune and probably left 20rwhp or so on the table; but wanted to have an overall tune for the 4 weather seasons for driving in MD. Defintely will hit the track for some 1/4 passes to see what she can do. A little hope for us Gen1'ers to keep up with the newer cars.

So hard not to WOT it now...300 mile done and 700 to go...

Congratulations Lex. I am shooting for something similar and with the help of ported heads and intake, lightweight flywheel, valve train, camshaft, bigger injectors, and a full 3'' M&M exhaust and headers I wish for 500 bhp at the wheels. Only catch is I have to have cats, otherwise car will not be emissions compliant.

If only I had the services of the Wizzard....., life will definitely be simpler!

Enjoy the car and post reviews after rondage

Those are great numbers for the mods. Alignhone the intake for another 20bhp. I presume that you upgraded to smoothtubes and K&Ns for that hp number?

Tires are usually good for 6 years, but probably new tires would gain traction slightly. Unless tracking your car I'd probably just keep the tires on the car. If they have lots of tread left maybe just call partsrack.com and buy a set of drag radials? They are about half price of PS2s.

Yes, I have the smooth tubes and K&Ns also (one of my first mods). The only thing I didn't do was upgrade my injectors to Gen2s. I just got the originals cleaned. I wonder what the conversion is the crank with a Mustang dyno?

Driving impression so far: I am at 700 miles with 300 to go; so I am shifting at 3500-3800 rpms max now to break it in and car seems really strong. Car is burning a little oil so I have to add a little when I fill her up. Trying to stay in the slow lanes on the hwy to shift 3-4-5-6 to 6-5-4 only seems to have every idiot wanting to race or cut me off. Can't wait to get on it. Idle can rock you to sleep if not for the rumble...
