I was wondering if anyone has looked at putting this technology into the viper engines....

For background info on this here's a link to Freevalve's (sister company to Koenigsegg) website: https://www.freevalve.com/freevalve-technology/

Benefits to this:

Reduced weight (gets rid of cam, rockers, push rods, etc)
Overall engine RPM Increase (push rod style design wouldn't be the limiting factor on how high the engine can rev)
Increased power and efficiency
Multiple engine mapping possibilities at a push of a finger without hardware changes


I would love to see how much power our engines could produce with this technology!

Which Koenigsegg has.

Having met Christian at the NYIAS, he's just awesome to have a conversation with. Absolute genius when it comes to finding new ways to improve internal combustion engines for the better instead of giving up on them entirely and sticking some AA batteries on a skateboard.

Might as well build a new engine from the pan up utilizing a system like that. I'd bet it would costs millions of dollars

R&D + prototyping + tests

would say.... 50-100 millions?
and double that because of covid crisis..

From his videos it looks like they are just replacing the heads on a project where it used conventional cam before. So not a full engine redesign...

I too met him 15ish years ago at the NYIAS! I will never forget it I was just a young kid who had just gotten his license. I waited by the side as he was talking to potential clients I assume. When I saw he was free I asked him about the mod motors they used to use and he very openly as excitedly started talking about the issues they had making them last at the power levels they wanted and how they were fixing it. It was cool to see him talking so excitedly that I was interested in it, especially as he was taking time away from potential clients.

If such a thing would be done on one of these engines I promise you the limiting factor would be valve size. Ideally you could map it so that there is no need for a throttle body. The valves would act as such. I love the freevalve system. Every ICE should have it. A simple tune even on NA would allow 200hp more. Yet...idle like a baby cam when you want it....and a big harry cam when you don't.

I don't think Koenigsegg is cash rich...last time I checked he had to sell off parts of his company. Maybe a genius, definitely great at marketing but to say he has the funds to make these unique ideas mainstream isn't going to happen through his company. If the ideas are good, large OEM's would just buy the licensing rights and his technology would be in hundreds of thousands of cars. Hopefully this will happen for him.
