I have the latest Navigation maps loaded in my 2017. I recently noticed that my car was a little lost (~30 miles). I found that I was running old Uconnect System software. I updated to the latest Viper release of 18.45.01 and all is well. You can check if your Viper is eligible for an update by going to this link https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html.:hog:
Also, our head units use third generation (3G) broadband cellular protocols. 3G will no longer work starting in January 2022. Some may not care but if you do, the good news is that Uconnect is offering a free* 4G adapter (normally $120) if you sign up for Uconnect Access service (1 year contract-$9.99/mo) on or before July 31st (this Saturday!). The adapter plugs into your OBD Port and gives Gen 5 Vipers 4G capability. To get the service and free adapter you can go online and sign into your Mopar Owners account, call 855 792 4241, or press the assist button on your rear view mirror.

I'm afraid of these updates with what happened to my Uconnect last time. I tried to update and it bricked the system. Had to pull out the whole unit and send it off to be repaired. Then the dealer tried updating and it bricked again.
Thank you for the heads up on the 4G adapter.

There was at least 1 Nav update with bad instructions (i.e. put the ignition in ACC mode). That one was a little scary but I was able to recover. The key tip is to leave the vehicle running during the entire process regardless of the update type (Uconnect Software or Navigation Maps).

Thanks for posting this thread EZ, super helpful on several fronts!
I also recently got the email about the Sprint 3G CDMA network shutting down, and I called to get the 4G adapter. They checked my
Uconnect software version and told me i had to update the software to 18.45.01 for the 4G adapter to work. I updated the Uconnect software (scary half hour) and got the adapter. I can't report on whether it works or not, as the 3G is still active, but i can tell you that it's pretty obtrusive and hangs down a couple inches. EZ's suggestion to get an extension for the OBD2 was a good one. I took a quick drive and wasn't having issues with my left leg knocking into the adapter when shifting, but the clearance is pretty minimal.
Edited to add...afterburner orange ftw
