The V10 was reportedly modified by Hennessey Performance with the Venom 650R package, which included a short block stroked to 522ci with JE 10.8:1 forged pistons, CNC-ported cylinder heads, a machined stroker crankshaft, Manley Pro forged-steel connecting rods, a Comp Cams roller camshaft, a custom air-inlet tract, a ported throttle body, and upgraded engine management software. The exhaust is said to feature 1.8″ diameter stainless-steel 5-into-1 headers and high-flow catalytic converters. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a Quaife limited-slip differential.

Pretty nice package. Would probably cost 15-20k to get that on a gen3

More like $45K+++ Fully built Viper motor with stroker kit etc, at least $45K- https://calvo-motorsports.com/calvo-gen-v-9l-stroker-package/
That uses the Callies/Prefix crank

If I understand correctly, that's 2 entirely different things...

Calvo =

785whp/730tq on 93 Octane

And that Hennessey is 650hp (crank or wheel?)

Yeah I don't even see Viper's on their website anymore. Not that anyone would send their Viper there LOL. I don't think Hennessy was doing fully built stroker Viper motors for $15-$20K, but I could be wrong.
Any fully built stroker Viper motor these days is gonna cost you at least $45K, not including additional cooling, dry sump etc if you planned on actually tracking the car. It's worth every penny though!

The media sure loved them...still do for the most part.

Their reputation in the Viper community is another story. There were apparently some folks back in the day that got absolutely hosed by them. They somehow managed to sweep most of it under the rug, but the damage was most certainly done.
