NY/CT: Special SRT Guest Luncheon @ Plataforma & NYC Auto Show 4/19

NY/CT Crew,

Spring has sprung and warm weather is just around the corner. I know many, like me, have been antsy to get our Vipers out of hibernation and enjoy cruising this spring. You’ll get your chance on April 19th. Our very first NY/CT event is a special one.

On Saturday April 19th, NY/CT VOA welcomes none other than Ralph Gilles and his wife Doris!!! That’s right, we’re spending the day with Ralph and Doris in NYC for a special luncheon at Plataforma. This is your opportunity to meet the man behind the Viper/SRT.

We’ll meet up for lunch Churrascaria Plataforma Brazilian Steakhouse in NYC on 316 W. 49th Street and spend some time getting to know Ralph and his lovely wife Doris. Following lunch, we’ll head over to the N.Y. Auto Show (optional).

Vipers are optional. Plataforma will try and accommodate Viper parking if needed. Due to the unpredictable weather in April, Vipers are optional for this event. It’s important that we RSVP so that Plataforma can make the necessary accommodations.

Please RVSP by 4/12 if you plan on attending this special event. Please indicate whether or not you are bringing your Viper.

How can I miss an opportunity to meet Ralph and Doris Gilles and ask Ralph to sign the glove box of my Gen III since he designed it? The only way that is happening is if they miss their plane. I'll be there and might bring the old man with me to prove to him that NYC, especially Manhattan, is not as crazy as he used to read about in the '80s.

When I bought my BMW Z3 a few years ago in Long Island, this was a funny convo my father and I had as we're driving down I-87 to pick it up:

Jimmy!!!!! You're on your own with parking. There must be parking at/near the auto show. Park at your own risk.

In general - the parking around the Auto Show is not going to be very Viper Friendly - would probably be tough to get comfortable with your options down in that neighborhood especially if you don't like giving anyone else your keys.

Were still on the fence about driving the Viper due to parking when we go to the auto show. Rocco, do you think they would let us leave it in front of the restaurant? We would pay to leave it there and it would attract people. Anyone else driving their Viper? What is the plan for the auto show? Are we going over together, touring it as a group or splitting up, are we touring it with Ralph and Doris and kids?

There should be ample parking out in front of the restaurant but Plataforma can't block off the street as it normally does for us due to permit restrictions. As for the auto show, whoever wants to go to the show after lunch can head on over to jacob javitz. Since many of us are taking the train/subway in we'll take the subway to the show afterwards. Tour as a group, split up, whatever makes YOU happy. Plan is to show up the show, buy tickets and start gawking at the cars. I'd love to take some group shots at the show. I don't know if Ralph and Doris will have time to tour the show with us as they have family plans for the weekend and I think they've been here all week for the show so they may want to take a break from it. Besides, we may scare them off....they never met the NY/CT crew. :)

Which reminds me to tell you all you need to be on your best behavior on Sat...sheep and other farm animals aren't allowed this time! :smilielol:

FYI Everyone - sorry chipping in late here but plan on wearing comfortable walking shoes - there is no perfect subway for this... could walk a few blocks to get underground to save 8 or 9 blocks walk, which will actually take 10 minutes longer. Walking directly from Plataforma to Javitz is just over 1 mile and probably 'easier'

We had 40 people turn out and we picked up a few more at the auto show. It was a great day, great people and great food. Big thanks to Ralph and Doris for hanging out with us. The food....I won't be hungry for a week or two at least. Plataforma, as always, treated us well.

We asked Ralph a number of questions. It's not like we held him down and forced answers out of him or anything. :anonymous: He shared one thing with us which was more dyno sheets, similar to ones he recently tweeted. The ones I saw had higher hp/tq numbers than what was tweeted. He was excited about this. If I were to guess, it's the new PCM for then GenV. But I think we'll find out in less than a month. I'm certain Ralph wants to share other details but simply cannot at this time. I heard a story whereby an SRT employee leaked out details around the 'hellcat' engine and was subsequently fired. They take this stuff seriously so we weren't going to push Ralph into answering questions he'd get in trouble over.

The day was about spending time with Ralph and sharing stories. He's a down to earth car guy, very humble and was appreciative for the turnout. He signed everything and took as many pics as people asked for. In all I think it was successful day.

What a day..it was outstanding. Spending time with our NY/CT friends, enjoying an incredible meal and meeting two of the most gracious people, Ralph and Doris...what a great way to kick off the 2014 Viper season!!!
