Hi all,
So first and foremost, idiot of the day goes to me - dropped the battery in last week (first drive of spring) - car is a 2017 GTS-R Final Edition (doubt that makes difference but knowing how these cars can have small but material iterative differences between model years, I figure I’ll mention it). No problems, starts right up, and had an issue-free first drive last week. So obviously went to take it out again today, and about 90 minutes into the drive, hit a moderate bump on the highway (car didn’t bottom out or anything) and I noticed my tachometer display started to flicker and the voltmeter was wavering from 13.9 V to 16 V. Knew something was off - the wavering voltage and the bump had me thinking the battery terminal had come loose. So I turned off the display the center display, turned off the stereo, and kept the car low in the revs. Got the car home, reconnected the loose terminal (obviously with a little more elbow grease), then smacked myself in the face. Now I’m worried I’ve fried something. As I understand it, once the car is running, the battery serves as a voltage regulator for the alternator - without the battery, voltage spikes can occur which can fry the various computers present in the car. Car is parked and ostensibly safe and sound...does anyone have any advice as to what I should do next to check if I’ve fried anything important? Any help would be greatly appreciated for the VOA forums Jerry of the Day.
Thanks,
Johnny
