That's exactly what I guessed when I got my BaT notification earlier today.

I fell a little short on my guess for that LE car recently on BaT so I'll go big on this one and say $240K.... Game on.

An incredible car! Whatever it sells for, the buyer cannot pay too much. He/she may buy a bit early, but whatever amount is paid, in my opinion, that price will seem cheap in a while.

I apologize to you and VOA for all of the pettiness between me and you know who. Im going to try and focus on the passion we have for these beautiful machines!

And thank you for the kind words and acknowledging me.

Lets hope both BAT cars go thru the roof!

So am I nuts NOT selling my 2013 SRT Track Pack car (14,800 miles) while the market is hot? A couple years ago, I probably couldn't have given it away. Problem is - I like the car. And wouldn't know what to replace it with for similar money.

Precisely the problem Scott. I've never had a sports car this long (3-1/2 years) without moving on to something else and even if I could get top dollar what am I going to replace it with. The only car I would probably even consider would be a Lambo of some sort but even then you give up a lot in terms of driving engagement and exclusivity. Plenty of Lambo's here on Long Island and I know for a fact I have the only GTS-R. I owned a Superleggera once and it was a great fun car that snapped necks back in the day but it's very dated now and slow. There really is nothing else comparable in this price range. Even Hurucan's are a dime a dozen here.

I cross shopped my GTS with GT3s. Ultimately, I couldn't justify the extra $25-35k.

I got (I think) a really good deal. $95k for a 6k mile GTS. I (think I) can sell it for a bit more than what I got it for, but now that I have it, I am definitely glad I didn't get the GT3. I never really cared about exclusivity- as previously mentioned, I drove Corvettes. I really enjoyed them because I could. I could afford to go beat the ever living crap out of them at the track and, short of a wreck, not worry. I had a warranty and even if I didn't, absolute worst case (again, absent a crash), I'm out $15k for a whole new engine and trans. Other parts like brakes were relatively cheap, too. They were the "practical" sports car.

But now I have a dedicated race car and the Corvette was only a fun car do a quick session in with buddies after we put our racecars away. It was a ton of fun chasing my buddy in his GT3RS, but I couldn't justify having it for 6 sessions (not even track days) a year. While it's delightful on the track, 460hp is tame on the street and it wasn't exactly anything that got attention. It wasn't special enough to take up 50% of my garage for that once a week drive. Then along came the Viper. I will do one track day in it, just to do it, but I doubt I'll even drive it to the track after that. I will, however, drive like a hooligan up and down the street and smile every time I open the garage door.

I originally got the GTS to hold me over to C8 Z06/ZR1, but I'm not sure I can see myself going back to something that isn't exotic. It's ruined me. My next car will have to be a Ferrari or at least a Porsche RS car. I say that now, but a 9100rpm V8 may change my mind.

With all that said, I don't think I could justify an ACR for some of the prices they're going for. At $180k+, a lot of other cars come into play. In my mind, they're more like a collectable baseball card than a car.

This is where I am. I would probably replace it within a year's time but not sure what with. I really like the car but selling st a profit while all I did was drive it makes sense, at least to me.

Thats seriously becoming something to consider. Some old lady smashes into you and you sustain some damage and a big fat black repair mark on Carfax.
That would be probably tens of thousands in lost value. Have to weigh that against a 1/2 hour cruise.

Take the 1/2 hour cruise. If is too short.....I am certain no one on their deathbed said, "If I had only driven my Viper less."

People need to see our Vipers and feel our passion. I thank Bruce Meyer and his comments on Auto/Biography about his 935 K3 - taking it out for people to experience. That is why I have put 3,900 miles on the GT2 and taking it to #voanve4. Another 3,000 miles on the ACR. I am happy thinking about them. Walking in the garage gives me goosebumps. Driving, well, pure bliss...

That said, it is your money. Enjoy it how you best see fit ;)

Hope to see you in Miami.

What’s the insurance going to do. Replace a car that is irreplaceable ? This statement may be true for your daily drivers but not cars like these

These cars are rare, not irreplaceable. You can get another one- just in another color.
As much as I love cars, they're also just cars. If someone totaled my car, which I'm not only in love with but also in the honeymoon phase, and no gen 5 viper was ever for sale again, there are countless absolutely awesome cars I could move on to. Lots of Porsches from the GT4 (maybe GT4RS!?) to GT3 to upcoming Z06, classics, F430, etc. It got this because it's what I wanted, but it's silly to not drive it because you're afraid someone might total it and then you won't be able to drive it.

Life goes on. Don't sweat the small stuff.

ACRSNK
03-19-2021, 03:21 PM
Definitely not irreplaceable, but I would be beyond upset if mine was involved in any type of accident no matter how minor. I bought the car brand new and it is pristine and I will be doing my best to keep it that way.

Having said that, the climb in values will just make each drive that much more "special", but won't prevent me from driving it. This car is way too much fun. Between all my cars, I'm lucky if I get a few hundred miles seat time in all of them yearly. Basically just enough to keep them all driven so they are not sitting around for extended periods with no use.

Maybe not irreplaceable but I sure as hell don't want to buy in NOW after what most of us bought in for 3-4 years ago. I like my GTS-R but there is NO way I'd buy another for 240K.

Depends on how you look at it. I have a 1 of 1 so yes, that is in fact somewhat irreplaceable. Sure, others may be available if you end up loosing the one you have. The ACRE’s especially will be hard to find and as values go up, owners may tend to drive them less.

When they were new some were able to get them for sticker. Pretty average to see them going for $10K over sticker at the popular Viper dealers. Now they are about $100K over sticker.

If you can find one for $220k, buy it. I'm thinking $230k-$250k will become the new norm, and we may even see them continue to creep up.
There were 3-4x as many Superbirds or Ford GT's manufactured than ACR's. Similar to those legends, ACR's are limited in supply, hand built, big aero, last of the dinos.
