FYI, I ordered a set of fronts from SimpleTire, discovered upon arrival 2016 date codes. Didn't matter for me, since I plan to track them soon enough.

Do we know how many batches were made? And when? I don't run them so have never really cared, but I guess it would be an important thing to know for the guys that still track Kumhos.

Yeah, I don't keep up with the Kumho myself, ordered the pair as backup, in case something happens to the R7 during a track day. Only mentioned it in case someone ordering those from Simpletire is expecting a fresh set.

My understanding was that Kumho stopped producing the ACR tire and whatever was left for sale was it. I've heard folks going with Toyo R888R's.

Thanks AZ. Looks like if the pictures are accurate they were manufactured in 2016.

I think they might all be. Does anyone have tires made after 2016? My buddy that is selling his rears, his are 2016, they came from Bondurant so they were stored inside and never in cold weather.

I've had about 4 front tires made in '18 or '19 over the last two years....all the rest where '16/'17. As long as they're stored properly shouldn't be an issue.

I have new tires on my ACR and I bought a spare set from John B a few months ago and they were dated 2018 and 2019. I have them stored in plastic bags in a climate controlled garage. I also got a couple of pairs of fronts (cheap) that are dated 2016. With this kind of probably permanent shortage, I will not track the Kumhos.

Great, now that I’ve bought an extra set of wheels lol. Regarding the Toyo r888r, I have heard they rub on the fender bolt on the ACR E. Info from guys that track them. Anyone else experience this?

The dates on the rears I bought from Tirerack a few months ago are from Dec 2019 Front were from Oct 2017.

I talked to tirerack today and they said Kumho would be making more of these tires next Spring, but couldn't give me a date. In case anyone wants to wait for a fresh batch.

They seem to sell enough of these that I highly doubt they will stop manufacturing them immediately.
I think it's just a timing and supply issue. I don't need new rubber until next summer, so I can wait.

JonB usually has the scoop.

If that is true, and I hope it is, then this temporary shortage should clear out all the 5 yr-old tires left in inventory.

It's pretty standard across the board for these relatively rare tires.
For my murcielago, Pirelli makes one run of new Corsas in the correct size once per year, usually around January. Then the stock dries up til the next year.

I keep a full set as a spare set in the garage at all times. I've heard as early as December...but who knows. I track my Kumho's and will continue to do so...coming up to my last event of the year anyway.

I know the rule of thumb is that a tire older than 5 years should be replaced. Is that true of brand new tires that have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere and that have never been heat cycled?

My understanding is that it depends on how they are stored. Exposure to sunlight is the biggest no-no; climate controlled would certainly be a bonus. They'll still degrade a little, but not as badly as they would if mounted.

Time gets everything in the end.

True. I ordered two sets from Jon this year. Fresher than 2016 (I think they are 2019) and he delivered them quickly. Good price too.

IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE: Stretching, Mounting, Inflating, and driving heat cycles matter the MOST

NEW, stickered tires, usually still having the mold-release agent on them, dont degrade anywhere as near as quickly as mounted-driven tires. Especially OE- tires, vs R-compound. The softer compounds oxidize and harden much faster than OE compounds. 3-year old inflated-driven R-compounds are BRICKS.

I have a brand new set of Kuhmo fronts up for grabs. Id like to get 350 for both (shipped) or $300 if picked up (Sherman Oaks, CA). I got them last year and they have been kept in my garage behind my Viper.

I LOVE IT that guys who KNOW tires, and KNOW traction, are not so unreasonably nit-picky about 2016 date codes on new, stickered tires. Good Score.

Just be sure they did not FREEZE over winters. SoCal guy NOT !

Yea, I would just burn them up on the track in a couple of days that is if the OP ever responds to my PM.

Good to know they're in stock again - I need a set because the existing ones went through some 30 degree nights. Hopefully they stay in stock for a while because I don't have anywhere to store a new set that won't get down to freezing :(

EXTREMELY low stock.....act soon. Mount the new set, store the OLD frozen set!

I actually thought about buying a set and storing them inside the nice warm house - but that would likely lead to a domestic disturbance of some sort. Unfortunately, around here in the hills, we have a lot more freezing nights ahead of us. I'm going to have to wait until I can put the car on jacks, pull the tires/wheels, throw everything into the trailer, re-mount, and then re-install. I might save the originals for posterity, but they can stay in the unheated garage. I wish I could grab a set now, but I think I'll have to take my chances for a spring/summer run of them.

JonB just sent me a set. I ordered them yesterday at 4:30pm yesterday and they were at my house at 5:45pm today! Talk about fast delivery! They were all week 35-37 2020 tires and as fresh and sticky as could be. JonB is the man!
