Easy way to fix a front numberplate to the ACR E,

1. Purchase 2 small bungee's, shorten to fit
2. Wrap the bungee's around the 2 centre sections
3. Drill 4 holes in plate
4. Fit thin foam rubber backing to plate to stop any scuffing
5. Fit bungee hooks into plate

stand back and admire handywork

I believe most US states that require a front plate require it to be bolted on. Your setup, while clever, would likely be illegal in many states. Of course I have never had a plate on any Viper and have only been stopped once. Got a warning.

Most states follow this language, not bolted. (This is NY's law). Funny enough there isn't a specific code of what is considered the "front" of a vehicle and arguable that stuffing one on your dash is front facing.

1) Cannot swing when placed

2) When possible, between 12" to 48" from the ground.

Doug Shelby makes a non invasive license plate setup for ACRs. I can picture that bungee cord plate set up being unruly at high speeds, chewing up the plastic.

and for non-ACRs http://www.viperpartsrack.com/gen5-license-plate-bracket

That's a great idea! Good thinking.

Parts Rack has one. Very simple and secure. The tag attaches to the the two rubber holders with 4 screws so it appears to meet law requirements and no one would know it snaps on and off in seconds. I've had one on my GEN3 for years and it is excellent.

We have no-drill front plate brackets for all models from 1992 - 2017 EXCEPT G5 ACR!

I have a sticker Sam. Nice and simple and doesn't block the air into the radiators(important on track). And never had a problem

I recently got a Fix it Ticket for no front lic plate and needed to come up with a solution to get it signed off. Being that I had tow hook on the front of the car I made this to fit into were the tow hook mounts. 45080

This is great information. I needed a front plate mount for my C8 inspection and just got it done. Gotta get creative with the Snake.

I will get you guys a pic of it installed and yes I would be willing to make a few more. Let me figure out how much time I had into it and I will PM anybody interested.

From the looks of it, it appears to be an IPSCO front tow hook with the loop thing unscrewed. If it is then anyone that wants one would also need the block that attaches to the round bar behind the grill. Is that correct?

Yes I made this to fit into the IPSCO tow hook mount. It's a new part that I made the cutouts larger and the end is milled off at an angle so the plate would fit into the grill better. I think it blocks off too much of the grill area. I have seen posts on here how people took the tow hook mount off their car because they thought it was blocking too much air. If that truly is the case then then this deal would be like closing off half the grill almost. I drove around with it on for a day in 90 deg temps and didn't have any issues. But this was on the street.

There really isn't any place to really put a front plate on these cars aside from maybe dead center and towards the bottom of the grill. But you would need to drill holes to do this I believe. This was the easiest way I could think of to get a plate on the car to get my ticket signed off.

Are you some sort of machinist or something? Maybe even a mad one?

There are days when I wish I had access to machining equipment...I have no shortage of hair brained ideas, but nothing to make them come to life.

Steve, it's a very slippery slope indeed when you have so much technology at your disposal.

Yes .... Grass Hopper
Just because one can..... Doesn't always mean one should.lol

For the most part it's been a blast. But I am thinking of retiring in a year or two. The only problem is I think I need to keep all my machines after having them around for so long. I don't think I could hang a picture on a wall without a lathe or a Mill. You know, just in case.
