The Gen 5 Service Manual only comes on CD now. God I miss the paper book. It requires Internet Explorer to run, it will not run on Chrome or Firefox. Windows just upgraded my system and replaced Internet Explorer with "Edge". Now I cannot get the Service Manual to open. I had one computer that has been off for a while so it has not been upgraded and I was able to open the manual on it but Windows has already downloaded the upgrade on that computer and as soon as it restarts it will also have Edge.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some way around this? I know I can go online to Tech Authority and pay for access but I already purchased the CD and I find Tech Authority hard to navigate.

Get an old computer running Vista as they no longer update anything. Should only cost you a few bucks.

I could do that I suppose but I find it ludicrous that the service manual only runs on IE. Virtually every other thing I have will run on Chrome or Firefox as well. Bloody stupid that they built it this way.

You should see the squeeze on aftermarket techs and owners who subscribe to use wiTECH's.

I believe IE is still there, just hidden. If you are not able to find it via the Search (bottom left magnifying glass) try these steps:

Go to Control Panel and then to Programs and Features.
Open Turn Windows features on or off from the left pane and locate Internet Explorer from the list.
Finally, check(Enable) on the Internet Explorer option and click on OK and then restart the computer.

Good points...I should have also added that my computer requires me to make IE the default browser to get the Service CD's and WUSB to work.

Here's the links to download Internet Explorer 11:
32 bit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40907
64 bit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41628

If you need older versions I can look those up too.

They still have them, got mine on USB key. You'll need Internet Explorer to use it. I've been working on a way to export it to something that can be viewed in modern browsers but don't hold your breathe. Beware while the manual is a great resource I've found it to be not entirely accurate particularly the wiring diagram manual. Still, it's worth having.

I am a Mac user and to get the files to work I had to create a windows 10 VM in VMware Horizon. I copied the files from the CD to a USB drive and now I have them for any PC or Mac I use. None of the computers have a CD anymore so USB made sense to me.

Chrome did allow you to run as an old IE version

Anyone know where to get the USB version? Tech authority is only showing the CD available.

Tech Authority is not showing stock of CD or USB? Does anyone have any clue where to get a copy now?

Anyone want to sell me their old copy?

Grabbed one of the tech authority discs off eBay for under 100 shipped just recently, copied it to a local disk and works fine in IE. Converting it to work in a modern browser wouldn't be too crazy, but IMO isn't worth the effort given how simple it is to just run within IE in Windows 10. The main reason it doesn't natively run in Chrome is because it does some old school cross-origin frame calls to populate the screen that would never fly in a modern secure browser. (you could unblock it but it's not a good idea)

really you just copied to your local drive? my copy required some additional copy bypass protection to get it copied. but i got a good copy now without disk requirements. i am curious if any aftermarket Gen 5 Service Manuals are floating around.

i should have an official version, thanks for the IE11 links. its required to run, now i have that archived as well

I bought the USB from tech authority and had no issues copying it to my hard drive. Just made a shortcut that opens the main xml file with IE and just click and go. USB (which is like a flip open credit card thing, not a traditional stick) is in a box at this point; you don't need it to use the manual.

I would suggest that you guys also get the 2017 wiring WUSB.

Steve, would you recommend the 2017 version, as maybe it has some corrected info, or the 2013 version which is my year? I've found a few errors in the 2013 manual, but thinking I should stick with 2013 versions.

I can't really say since my Service Manual CD's are 14 and 15 (other than the 17 wiring info on the WUSB that I mentioned).

As to errors...yes...I remember finding a couple...but it is harder to spot than when you have the old printed manuals laid out before you.

I just ordered the 2013 wiring USB. And dang I forgot how much they kill you for shipping. $16 to mail a credit card sized item lol. Fingers crossed it ends up being right when I need it!
