View Full Version : Coolant Flush Change DIY

Perhaps I've overlooked it in multiple searches...but is there anything special about a coolant flush for the Gen V ACR-E? Looking to do a flush and possibly change the coolant/water mixture slightly. Are you guys still running the OEM coolant? I know some people run 70/30 water...and if so, which coolant?

Why would be my question? The cars come with the HOAT stuff, which lasts like 10 years or something. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My $0.02.

Initially I’d say the same, but tracking these cars is another animal. This past weekend, it ran much hotter than I’d like to see - and for my peace of mind, I like fresh fluids more often than not. Similar to the reason some guys use different oil vs what is specified in the manual and changing other fluids (such as oil) before recommended by the manual.

No worries!

Yeah, but probably more street than track so just seeing what others thought - I’ve also checked in the track section - so we shall see.

Did this just a while ago....us an airlift or similar coolant vac fill tool.

I didn't bother pulling the block plugs as one of is right over the starter.

Instead I flushed it, filled and flushed and then refilled it again.... using the factory premix...

Also changed all the hoses while I was there

There's a breather on the top of the thermostat housing. It's the highest point in the cooling system and can is used to evacuate air.

Gen 5s tend to run hot on track. There are several threads about it. ACRs don't seem to run as hot maybe because the splitter is forcing more air through the radiator. Make sure your radiator is clean. Try hosing it down with a strong spray from inside out to force debris out. I doubt changing coolant will do anything. You could try bleeding air out using bleeder to make sure there is not an air pocket but that is about all I would do.

Gen 3-5 coolant flush is pretty much the same procedure for all of those generations. Some good tips and tricks that I've collected over the years from others in there.

Swex is a good dude and all, but be careful on the coolant Gents. HOAT is technically the G05 coolant used up to Gen IV. Mopars MY13+ (including our Gen V’s use Mopar Purple OAT coolant.) They are not the same, mixing them can cause massive sludging issues. https://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/4513/chrysler-purple-coolant Also note that used OAT coolant loses its purple color over time and can appear orange in your reservoir.
