hello i bought a dodge viper from a mercedes dealer in tennesee, and i just found out that i need to call dodge to get the warranty transferred. i called dodge a few times to verify i had a warranty but didnt know i needed to transfer it to me.
i bought the viper in january or feburay and now its april.
its past the 30 days from purchase.
does anyone have any ideas what dodge will do?
it was purchased from a dealer. will dodge void the warranty just because i didnt transfer within 30 days?
also can i then buy the mopar warranty to get it renewed into my name?

Are you talking about the Factory Warranty or an Extended Service Contract? If factory , and there won't be much left likely, but sounds like you listed it with Dodge already. If you are talking about an Extended Service Contract the Dealership is not the actual owner in all likelihood , but the prior owner , so they do not own said contract. It would have to be transferred by the prior owner or he'/she will have to sign off ownership. There is usually a fee to be paid. I would suggest you go back to the Dealer who sold you as they are quite away an Extended Service Contract is not automatically transferred or usually done without a fee and a release form.
You likely can buy a FCA Extended Service Contract if still under part of the factory warranty, and it can be checked at a Dodge Dealer.

Good morning. I was recently able to extend my MaxCare (which expired this month) out another 8 years, for a reasonable cost. Considering it covers things that go wrong like window regulators, oil cooler lines, etc, minus th $100 deductible, it's good insurance. You will have to call Mopar MaxCare directly. Dealer incorrectly told me that it could not be extended.

Make sure a Dealer plugs in your VIN number as that should tell them if it can be extended, as some will not do that and assume it can not be extended. Good luck.

I bought from Mercedes-Benz in Collierville, TN.
I actually reserved the viper over the phone with a deposit. They claimed the viper was in pristine condition and the previous owner had spared no expense and traded the viper in for a mclaren.
Come to find out they put on the cheap aftermarket rear diffuser not the oem. The seats were starting to wear near the calf section or back of knee. They completely hid the tear in the leather dash and claimed it was not there. I actually took photos before i took the car and its in the photos but cant be seen when in the car. Someone had writtin in permanent marker on the brake ducts. A chip on the hood. And after the car wrap had been removed i assume before delivered to the dealer, swirl marks had been put into the clearcoat. The car only has 6000 miles mind you. O and all the bolts for the windows were out and sliding around in the door lol passenger and driver. I had asked them to put conditioner on the seats so i could protect them during the drive home. And they put on leather sealant then refused to tell me the brand of sealant.
Next, i a repeatedly asked the dealer to get ahold of the previous owner to get a maintenance log and history. This started as a; i will get ahold of the owner and sent you all the info. To them ignoring my further requests for info. Additionally theres a 2nd gear syncro issue, like a double bounce as i shift into 2nd. I have to be nice with 2nd to not grind.
Then the sales agent got into an arguement with the finance agent, Not my banks agent. They started a shouting match in front of me about not having my paperwork prepared after i had put down a deposit, sent over all required paperwork, and took a bus to the dealer agent. I am trying to buy a car and 2 agents are screaming at each other and threatening to get each other fired.
And lastly the car warranty was not transferred into my name and they never even i formed me to call dodge up on the warranty.
The dealer sales agent as i signed the as-is document they claimed if somethings wrong with the car we will make it right .... Were mercedes we dont sell junk....
Lol when i talked to the same agent later and brought up the comment. They asked who told you that ? My responce.... ummm you told me that...
such an idiot.
So basically the lesson is most dealers are just plain lieing.
THANK GOD at least i LOVE THE VIPER COMPLETELY, everything about it i love, except i could use an extra +150hp.
Sorry for the rant, but needed to down that dealer... lol.
So fair warning from them, you might get a good car but just know they lie.

Bill, that's supposedly what mine did...and said no.
But MaxCare contacted me directly. Extended the original I bought from you when I purchased the car from you. Gives me peace of mind. And I have the R28 as well!
Especially in Hootie's thread, car he's looking at needs an AC Compressor. $1735! That's a good example, minus my $100, and MaxCare will handle that if I ever need something similar. Pays for itself right there.

It is a catch 22, as the Moss Magnusson Act states an extended contract can not be extended again , yet many companies will do it anyway. The Insurance actuaries figured costs of repairs for an extension and not an additional extension. Dealers should not add an extension without verifying it will be covered, since in most States if the extension is deemed ineligible the Dealer could be liable. If you get one from Maxcare Direct then pretty hard for them to deny. Usually the computer check with a Dodge Dealer verifies and they are often less expensive, but one can always check it out.
One can check it out either way and it has been a curious situation over the past decade, since not that long ago some contracts required a Dealer check up on a used vehicle before an Extended Service Contract would be offered. I will let folks know that if you get an extension and then take it in quite soon for a problem, it can often be denied as an existing issue ( read the fine print).

If you're past the 30 days, good luck. If you figure something out, please let me know.
I went through the same debacle last year. I purchased my car at the end of April 2019 with the MaxCare extended warranty. The car did not arrive to me until end of June 2019 because it was getting some upgrades before shipping to me. When I tried to transfer the warranty after getting the car in my possession, MaxCare said I was out of luck.

MaxCare contacted me before the current one expired, so it worked out well.

There is a high quality Body Shop over in Boerne ( sold the owner a Viper years back ) and he is a big MoPar fan. After all these years this old fart can't grab his name out of the mothballs in my cerebellum , but he likely can do the touch up and maybe even do a correction on the seat. If he can't fix the seat, he likely knows someone who can. Someone on here likely knows the guy as he was active with Snakes for quite few years.
Most Dealers would take care of your issues or offer some help since you are so far away, but it sounds like you found one of the Stores that give us all a bad name. When we sell a vehicle , if there are some little issues we have a form ( have had said form for 20 years ) that we give the customer showing we " Owe them," a repair of what is listed. Of course nothing is perfect , but it is one way to hopefully give the buyer some reassurance.
Good luck doing a little research on the Body Shop near you and I will try and rack my brain to remember too!
PS- I did check Google and that did not help , but there is a place called the Hot Rod Shop and they like MoPars, so ---- probably could send you to the right place or help you out?

When I sold my Jeep, I called MaxCare and there’s only like 2 states that you can transfer the warranty to new owner and MO isn’t one of them. Makes no sense only 2 states are allowed.

Wait what? Are you saying that you extended for an additional 8 years for a total of 16 years from your in service date?

Correct. I was expiring this month. MaxCare contacted me with an offer to extend. Total of 15 years. First one was from April 2013 until now. I was surprised too - especially after my dealer told me it couldn't be done. Pretty reasonable cost too, annualized. With how much repairs cost for the things that break - it will pay for itself if and when I need to use it.

That is great, I had no idea that was even possible! Extendeds are usually not worth it but with our hand made low production cars thats a smart investment for sure.

You likely talked to someone who had no idea what they were talking about, as there are way more States where the contract can be transferred , though there is a fee.
