Anyone ran them yet? Don’t recall seeing that size in proxes rr

That’s a much different tire, strictly track oriented tire 42859

Interested as well. These tires have been out for a while but not that long in our sizes. I know the Porsche guys love the RR's and run the same lap times vs the R7's. I don't have any first hand experience but I've heard the RR's are also very consistent throughout the tread life.

I ve heard similar, priced also very well.
Wonder if any acr guys ran these in the front instead of the Hoosiers as some do.

I have been running them on my Gen 2 for 6 months. I use the car for mostly half mile stuff but have carved a few canyons up with the club plus some street driving. IMHO there not loud. Great all around tire. I would buy them again when needed. About 6 K on them and 50% +- tread left. I did buy them from Jon great prices!

Edit. I thought the OP was talking about the R888R's my bad.

Thanks Snipe and Blu

We can do those with 295-18 fronts or 315-18 fronts, set of 4 from only $1249.

Surprisingly a DOT-legal tire, but crappy-crappy in rain; unlike DOT R888R, which is rain-decent, drive wet with extra care....

Site is light on specs for that size.

The 295/30ZR19 size would work for the ACR stock 19" front wheels, slightly wider and a higher load rating than the R7s of the same size.

Used them at the end last year for 2 events. Worked really well and much lower cost than Hoosiers.

Found specs for the RR in 345x30x19.

Not to bring up an old thread, but has anyone gotten any more recent experience with the RR's? I have a near free set that I will be getting and curious if anyone has been tracking on them this summer. Looks like 345/35/18 and 315/35/18 are available for those on 18's.

This is the Spec Tire for numerous classes in NASA and it is a bit slower than an R7 , but they seem to have a little bit more life. Gives folks another option for a DOT Comp tire ,though like an R7, few will drive these on the street. This tire is probably close to two seconds faster than the R888Rs.

Any idea how these would this compare to the stock Kumho Ecsta V720's on the ACR?

I've noticed a lot of the high hp calvo cars have started using them instead of the r888r's.

My thought on them for the track was that Toyo has a strong contengency program if you are running in NASA. A 1st place and a 2nd place over course of weekend will give enough Toyo bucks to covers a set of tires. If they grip as well as the Kuhmo and can survive a weekend they may be a win for those who are not running full on slicks.

Ran the old RA1s years back and they were a great tire for Miatas and other machines and what folks liked about them was they stayed consistent throughout a session or race. Things changed and the R888 came out and it fell on it's head , literally starting as the Spec Tire for World Challenge and Pro Spec Miata. It was so thoroughly hated that both organizations canned it after one year. The tire changed over the years since the debacle , and the RA 1 was dropped but only for awhile - it came back due to overwhelming demand from drivers as it wore well and was a great HPDE tire. The RR started off competing against the BFG gforce R1s and Hoosiers and was fairly close to these two at the outset , though a bit slower. Over the past years, once it became the Spec Tire for many classes in NASA , they became better and better though compounding and other changes. The tire is now considered on par with the BFG ( which is actually being discontinued ) and quite close to an R7 ( not as fast as a A7 ). That said it seems more consistent to many drivers over a session or race and that has been it's plus --- kind of like furthering the DNA from the old RA1 and not the R888R. The R888R is still not one of my favorites , but many like it, I just can't stand the infernal noise, plus it is slower than many other DOT Comp tires on a road course.

I've heard from guys who use the Toyo that the tire grips... until it doesn't and there is little feedback/warning to the driver before they let go. That was all I needed to hear.

ViperNC are you discussing the R888R or the RR , because running with NASA ( Spec Miatas all run RRs, American Iron all run RRs ) the feeling with those drivers is it is consistent throughout a session or even 35 minute race. Having run on them in a friends car I found them similar to an R7 and the word on the street has always been that it is more consistent tire than others in the 40 TWR tires , though it may not be quite as fast as the Hoosiers. I love Hoosiers, but I will run Toyos next year as their are bonuses for NASA drivers in both Time Trials and Road Racing. I for one am excited to see the RR come out in some bigger sizes since it will give Viper Owners more choices and they are priced well.

Now if you are stating about the R888R, no argument there , not a favorite of mine for road racing.

I ran RRs at Viper Rendezvous Friday afternoon and Saturday. I have also been running them at High Plains Raceway this Summer with NASA. My last session was the 19th heat cycle on them in which I had my personal best at HPR. They are a bit faster than R888r, but probably not as fast as R7s like Bill said. They are also about $600 cheaper than Hoosier R7s. I am running 295 up front. The 315s had a pretty good jump in price compared to 295s. I plan on buying them again.

The guy I was talking with was describing both tires. Maybe he was biased.

Used to run Spec Miata ( so know most of the guys running) and now run ST2 , but a lot of my friends are running RRs in American Iron and they all like the durability , consistency and price. I would suggest your friend was discussing the R888R as that is pretty much the situation with them - sticky for a bit and when they go, they go.

I ran a friend's really hard at a track close to me to help him with set up and they were solid for the 30 minutes I was out hammering on them. Jon B can set folks up with a set and Luvspeed is quick and he should be a good reference for many imho.

RR is the Spec Tire for American Iron, Spec Miata, and a few more Classes in NASA.

I have heard that there is rubbing issues using a 30 series tire on the front of the ACR extremes at track setting using stock ACR wheels. Any truth to that?

I've been running the Toyo RR's on my C5Z06 track car, 295/30/18 fronts and 315/30/18 rears. If you're looking for ultimate speed, then I would look elsewhere. They do wear very well though...I've got about 6 track days on them. My car is pretty light and I would say the alignment is track aggressive allowing for very even wear across the tread. I probably have 2 more track days left in them if I track in the heat.

I will say they grip ok until they don't. Coming in from the track the tread is very sticky, yet nearly no pick up of pebbles like my Hoosiers would....not sure why not.

I did a track day yesterday at Thunderhill and the ambient temps got up to 100 degrees...paddock asphalt temps were 124 degrees at around 2:30 pm. The tires did surprisingly well not getting greasy, but you always feel like they are going to let go when on the edge or are they??....I much prefer the Nitto NT-01's as a fun track day tire, I felt they were much more predictable.

You also need to be aware that these Toyo's cannot be run "backwards" when rotating left to right because of the way the tread cap is put on them. If you do, you'll see a tread separation seam that can go all the way across the tread and eventually ruin the tire. Read the explanation here:

Yesterday I met a Corvette & ZL1-1LE engineer who was visiting and tracking his family's super modified (over 700 hp) C6Z06. He was running both the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R (at least I think that is the model) and the Toyo RR's. He was not a fan of the RR's....just not a lot of speed and sketchy at the limit. He could not stop raving about the Goodyears and he felt they were as good as the Hoosiers and lasted longer and I think they are less money.

That pretty much sums up what I was told about the RR's as well. Once again, that is all I need to hear. I'll spend the extra money if necessary to feel confident I'm not going to have the tires break away with little to no warning.

Just installed a set of the R888R's on the car. They look good and hookup much better than the Pirellis.
