Tire Mounting Help Question

Last year I bought a tire changing machine and wheel balancer for my garage. I have changed several sets of tires without any major difficulties. I have a set of new Forgeline rims, and today was my first attempt at installing slicks. I previously have installed Toyo R888rs, and Hoosier R7s on SWII rims without too much difficulty. I am currently having difficulty getting the bead to seat on the front of the rim. The tire is caught more central to the bead on the rim. I guess the sidewall is more stiff than the other tires I have tried to mount. It won't budge much. The back side bead is seated. I guess I could break the backside bead and remove and try to start over again.

The sticker on the tire states not to go over 40 psi to seat the bead. I have gone to 50 psi. Max inflation pressure is 60 psi. I have tried pushing down one the opposite side to loosen the problem side up to no avail. Anybody have any tire mounting wisdom that they can share?

I had the same issue with Michelin slicks. I think it took nearly 80 psi to seat the bead and I used plenty of lube on the bead. I mounted the wheel on the car farthest from me in case it let go and aired it up. You don't want to be around it. Only other option is to take them to a tire store and have them do it. They have safety cages.

Thanks for your response. How did you control the air at the tire while standing on the opposite side of the car?

you using lube or paste? mounting paste may help, but also occasionally I'll have to bypass the machine and air it up direct from compressor, lay it on the ground, lay something across top of it for protection, eye glasses, ear plugs etc. can be dangerous for sure, but I've had to go up to 90 before, remove hose right after it pops to let pressure out. Be safe. Take it somewhere if don't want to do it.

Thanks for your replies. I was using lube. I did increase the pressure. Took 70 psi to get the first wheel every other wheel was around 60psi. The first time I put on my dirt bike chest protector and helmet. Seems the sticker on the tire had me being too timid.

Long hose and one of those inflator fittings that locks on the tire valve. Control air pressure at the air compressor. When you hear the bead seat, turn the pressure all the way down.
