I had my car serviced today at my local SRT dealer and they found that my steering rack is seeping on both ends, the boots were wet. Nothing has dripped on the garage floor yet but the tech added a little power steering fluid at last oil change and said we'll keep an eye on it. I bought the Mopar max care warranty through the dealership a few years ago and this repair will be covered, however this warranty runs out in May. Also, the new rack isnt available anywhere so they special ordered one so I guess when one turns up, they'll get it. Anyone else thats still under warranty, check this rack out next time you're under the car. Mines a 2013 so some of you later model owners with a warranty should be still good.

Thanks. My MaxCare warranty just expired. So I'm SOL if my car ever needs this. How many miles on your car now? Due to restricitions here in PA, mine's not leaving the garage anytime soon.

I inquired with my dealer if I could extend the MaxCare, and he told me not available for the Viper. When it's done, it's done.

Any reason why the steering rack would be different in the 2015-2017? That part seems to be readily available (PN# 4865678AH).

Not sure if it would fit or the racks are the same from year to year. I have a brand new one in the box for a Gen 1. Bought it years ago for a hot rod project that never happened

Scott, my car just rolled over 7k miles. Everything else on it is perfectly fine though, cant complain

Yep, thats the part number they put on my ticket. They may have looked it up using my VIN so it called out a 2013 specifically. I may give them a call and let them know that later model units, same part, is available. Thanks for the info!

Good to hear. About 14,500 on mine. Only been out of the garage 4 times, for about 200 miles since last September. Combination of no time, winter, and now travel restrictions in PA. So there she sits, on the tender.

As an FYI, I was able to extend MaxCare! I received a postcard in the mail from them, called, and for a pretty reasonable price, it's now extended out to 2028. Same $100 deductible.

Just needed a inner tie rod end on the passenger side. You can't buy a tie rod end only. So they replaced the entire rack under warranty.

Maybe we can get Doug Shelby to produce inner tie rod ends? Or some other kind of solution?

I bought a set from:

Circled in red is where mine developed play.

You can buy them after market agreed. But why spend the cash when SRT will replace the entire unit for free. If it was out of warranty then Viper parts USA is the way to go!

$195 for one tie rod end? Yikes. Must be a viper tax . I wonder if you can find it more reasonably priced elsewhere.

Yeah wasn't cheap but less than buying the entire steering rack. Didn't investigate perhaps MOOG offers an option.
