Last Sunday I took my car out for a spin, given the balmy 50 degree temps. Returned home, clamped on the battery tender and went to sleep. At 3am, the car alarm sounded. My wife, dog and I all managed to avoid cardiac arrest before disarming the alarm and returning to bed. Thirty minutes later, same thing. I unplugged the battery tender and it did not happen again.

Yesterday, I again fired up the beast; this time only to enjoy hearing the rumble of the motor and exhaust without removing it from my garage. Afterwards, I thought that last week's incident may have only been a fluke so I again plugged in the battery tender. All was fine until 15 minutes after I left for work this morning when I received a rather spirited phone call from my wife that the car alarm was again going wild. I talked her through the routine employed last week and, again, the situation resolved.

Has anybody had this happen? More specifically, does anybody have insight as to what may be causing the problem and how to avoid it in the future?

On Gen 3/4 it used to be caused by the hood alarm sensor being out of adjustment. Never heard of this problem with a Gen 5. Is your car stored inside? If yes, was the alarm even on? Battery tender as a possible cause is curious.

The first thing I'd try is a different battery tender.

I had this happen on my first GEN-V i purchased. after looking over everything thing found that i had washed a pair of pants with key fob in the pocket. had to take the battery out of the key fob to stop it.

it was a fun evening until my wife happen to be folding wash and said look what i found :-)
