crank pulley

a lot of you guys probably have this on your Viper already, but just want to give my 2 cents if anyone is thinking about getting one. I just installed the Doug Shelby Crank Pulley this past sunday. Great quality as always with Doug's products and pretty simple install. since I used blue thread loc on the new bolts I waited until Monday to start the car.

At start up, I noticed a couple things: first as I started the car my volts start at 12.6 and every second or so go up .3 (ie. 12.6, 12.9, 13.2 etc) until it hits 14.4 and levels off there. the same thing happened before I changed the pulley, the same way. i guess that's a good thing??

the second thing i noticed was the belt does seem to move slower at idle compared to stock. So i hopped in the car and took a nice long ride. to me it felt a little more responsive and power wise your not going to feel 100 extra hp, its like maybe putting a can of octane boost in your gas tank. all interior lights and accessories functioned normal. the only real test is to run it in 100 degree weather with the air on in traffic. maybe someone has tried that and can chime in on how everything performed.

I have the pulley on my car from IPSCO and I haven't noticed what you are. For reference I have had my pulley on for a year and a half. But I do know some owners put a smaller belt on to counteract some belt slippage they were experiencing maybe this would help you.

My Gen 4 with the stock pulley does this...pretty sure it is normal, and just a function of how slowly the display reacts to fluctuations.

I installed the ISPCO pulley with oem belt. It idled fine at start up, then went for a short cruise. At the first stop light it was struggling to idle and the volts at 12-13. I replaced the belt to 1" shorter. back to 14+ volts. back to normal with a quicker rev.. good luck!

IHOP, Cascorn, hey guys, I'm not experiencing slippage, the pulley kit from Doug comes with new bolts and a shorter belt, and its on tight. I did not experience any voltage drops during my ride either. what I was trying to say was everything functioned normal and like Cashcorn, I noticed a quicker rev. for the money to me, it was worth it.
Also, I did not measure the speed of each belt, but when the car was at idle, it just seemed to me that the new belt with the ISPCO pulley turned slower compared to stock. would that be correct, with the new diameter pulley?

No dis, just a guess, but, most do not have an issue with the oem belt. I have run my IPSCO pulley since 2013 without issue. The 12 volt level by itself should not affect the idle, again, a guess, you had an intermittent problem that manifested itself at the wrong time. We will probably know fairly soon how many had issues.

Steve, what I was trying to say here is both pulleys seemed to charge the battery at the same rate during start up, which I was glad to see. thanks for reassuring me

Yes, those pulleys are ~15% smaller diameter, so the belt will be moving 15% slower(as well as the alternator, water pump, etc.).

I would go with the 1" shorter belt if your idle or voltage has changed after the first drive, it's only $10+/-.. peace of mind.. good luck

I could be wrong but I think IPSCO makes the pulley for Doug.
