That would be every Viper owners dream to own the very first car.

That would be so amazing to own, what a great piece of hisstory.

My wallet and I are not worthy of such royalty in the garage, but it gives a boy something to daydream about!

When will you be coming into town. Surely you'll want to buy this in person. :)

Looks like they're estimating $100-125k.

While a lot of money for a Gen I...I would think it would be worth more than that being the first one ever produced.

If the viper is ever going to be a collectible, this would be the one...$$$.

A highlight of my LIFE was providing some parts for that car to The Chairman when it was getting detailed-restored.....the phone calls alone were simply amazing.

It should go for double that, minimum.

I amazed that the estimate is so low for such a significant piece of automotive hissstory??

The last Viper and first Demon brought $1million at auction.

Agree and it probably would if it were at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale

They did, but proceeds went to charity.

There you go again using car auction sales prices as a reference point for the actual value of something. Drunks with their trophy wives and checkbooks. Hilarious.

Auction sale prices aren't necessary accurate nor inaccurate values; 50/50.

Now, vehicles being auctioned off for charity...100% inaccurate representation of the vehicle's value.

Interesting to see if it has the same engine it crossed the production line with. A bit of trivia—the first few production executive vipers went back to the factory to have their engines replaced very early for throwing oil. If his has 6k plus miles I doubt it has the production engine. Imo it does not affect value. I scoured the country and with Lutz’s help bought his original engine which I have in a crate.

These cars did not go thru dealers and someone like Herb would come to the execs houses and take the cars back to the factory.

Hopefully it stays in America! It is the one to have. It has no choice but to do extremely well.

I would not be surprised if this Viper does not go to a Museum. A lot of these caliber vehicles end up there. I personally think that this would be the best outcome. So that all of us (meaning me too) can go visit with this piece of history.
To have it go to a private owner and hidden away would be a waste.

Today is the BIG DAY - GUESSES? Hagerty #1 $67,800 plus $50,000 for VIN#001 plus $35,000 for Lee. $152,800 + 10% = $168,080.00. What say you?

I think the sky's the limit. $100-$125k would be a serious bargain. My guess is at least double that.

$400,000 to 500,000 ...................first and the fact that it was Lee Iacocca's lends itself to a lot of collectors who would desire it because of his legendary status in the annals of Automotive History.

Cool side note about Jon B providing some parts, sounds like another , " And now you know the rest of the story?"

I agree with 1/2 mill IF they had given it a good block time like Saturday night. Still over 1/4 million is way over what they were estimating and with no reserve.

I think the price it went for is quite fair for what the car is.

I am biased but I think depending on how young you are (I’m not) if you can scoop up a 92 and drive it some and hold it you’ll be happy. 53 Vettes do well at about the same production level. Plus, they don’t make Vipers anymore and never made massive volumes. And say what you want about different Gens it was always a purpose built sports car whereas Vette reputation was sullied by some bad years.

First C8 Vette just got auctioned for $3M to Hendrick of Nascar fame. Just shows the difference in collectability between the 2 legends.

Not sure I understand. Iacocca's car was being sold. Hendrick was buying. Hendrick always buys #1. He was raising the bid by $5000,000 at a time. Without him, probably a million less. If not for charity, probably another million plus less. VIN #001 Supra sold for charity for $2.1 last year. OH, and placement was HORRIBLE. With a Thursday and afternoon time slot?!? Maybe, add another $50 - $100K for Saturday night at BJ. Add if the family sold for charity another $250....

BTW - I am probably totally wrong anyway.......

What did I miss with you statement?

Just that the Iacocca #001 was the first Viper ever and all it got was $285K while the C8 001 was only the first C8, not the first Vette. It was a $60K car that commanded $3M. And even if Hendrick didn't overbid, it still would have sold for well over $285K. The Vette seems way more collectable than the Viper. The Supra Turbo still costs more than the Vipers from the equivalent 90s. The Viper just does not seem to have the collectability that we wish for. It hurts my rationality more than my wallet.

Well, let’s take a deep breath. The Vette was a charity based car which always ends up in huge numbers and potential tax break. I once bought a Ford GT that had been charity auctioned at BJ for half the price . The Iacocca car has an “interesting “ history including the potential for many replaced parts but given its provenance, well bought .

AviP, Hendrick also bought the #1 Hellcat for $825k @ BJ Vegas with proceeds going to charity. Beyond the tax deduction he got a lot of $ benefits from FCA

Can not compare these charity auctions to a vehicles true worth
