Anyone here going? There's two Viper's on the below car list, one is a 1300hp Gen 5! Anyone on here? I might head down in the 720s as my 9 liter is down right now.

Went to this a few months ago C, was disappointed in the number of cars that showed up. I hope this event has better attendance. Be safe!

When I got it back the car was doing strange things, no power at all when flooring the throttle in 2nd gear, but ONLY in certain corners. Then all of a sudden the power would come on full blown. I spun the car 3 times that weekend trying to record more data. LOL. I haven't spun in years. It humbled me lmao. I sent Prefix the AIM data Dick is supposed to look at it soon and see if it's in the tune or maybe something else. I sent it to an AIM expert and he suspects a bad wheel sensor. But we'll see what Dick says. This was my first time driving it after the new pistons 803whp etc. The car was BRUTALLY BRUTALLY FAST. It would roast my michelin slicks even in 3rd gear. Was the most fun I've had in a long time on track, but would end up dead with the 3.73's in it. Switching back to 3.55's.

Did you go on a Sunday? Saturday's there are also tons of cars there, almost too many. I ended up not going, just don't have the time this weekend.

are you going to be running the Viper? Or just spectating?

I’ll be running the Viper. I have run it down there several times as I have progressed through different modifications. It ran 162.10 with bolt-on’s and last time there went 167 but I was having some issues (the car has A&C heads and cam now). Looking forward to see how it runs tomorrow, and I prefer Sunday’s to Saturday’s. Much less crowded and I can make as many passes as I want. Definitely not as good if you are only a spectator as Saturday seems to attract some of the faster cars

Let us know how it goes! They started doing it differently recently, they used to let us "cheat" a bit and get a head start before the half mile began. Now I think it's a strict half mile.
Now you have to do a decent 1/4mi launch to get max speed

Wow dude! Freakin' awesome! No issues all day? What tires were you running? Do you plan on going to the next one? Should be around March. If you go I'm sure a handful of us will come down and check it out.
I want to run my 9 liter there it will be the fastest naturally aspirated car there for sure.

Chris995 congrats on a stellar run. 208 is faaast.
AZ how does your 9L compare to the 720S acceleration-wise?
Asking cause I remember PDV's 9L Viper lost pretty badly to a stock 720S.

I wish I would have been there on Saturday to see Chris run his TT car as 208 is flying. We went down to Gila Bend on Sunday and it was a great day with a pretty low turnout which meant I could make a lot of runs. They did change to an actual 1/2 mile from what I was told, as they used to have the starting line out about 400 feet where you could get a running start to go from a 40-60 roll. My A&C heads/cam Viper ran great all day and posted up a best MPH of 167.55. To put that into perspective, a stock C7 Z06 was running 148-150 and a stock Gen V Viper was running 153-154. There was also a 720S with aftermarket exhaust that was running 166 but I was not able to line up with him. Overall I was very happy even though I was hoping to run 170.

Man all kinds of Viper's out there! LOL awesome.
I'm surprised you ran the same times as the Mac. 720's are 690whp and 3100 lbs with wicked launch control and insane transmission.
Great times, Chris and Quasar. I will likely go in March as well.

I think in most cases the 720 will smoke it. But the 9 liter would beat it in a drag race if you were running drag tires and power shifted like a madman and made a perfect run.
The Mac you get in, hit launch control, floor the throttle and let go of the brake. Boom 9's at mid 140's every time on street tires.

I was surprised by the 720S as well, fully expecting it to be much faster. Last time out there a 570S was running high 160's so we were all expecting more from the 720S. There was also a Lamborghini Aventador out there running 166-168. We lined up and he got out on me due to traction issues. Even though we ran the same MPH I was noticeably running him down on the top end. We also lined up against a 1000whp GTR and got to see what it looks/feels like to get drug all the way down the strip! If only I had the funds to TT the Viper.

I bet he had old 91 octane gas. These cars run much faster with 100 octane. There's stock ones trapping 147 in the 1/4, our cars aren't close to that. When Pobst ran a 720 at Laguna he was like 2 seconds off pace, Mclaren told him to put some 100 octane in it and he went 2 seconds faster.
You should come out to wild horse pass East track end of next month I'll be running my 9 liter with Nasa, maybe you'll want to try some road course stuff!

I'd say traction was an issue especialy in the a.m. really wasnt standing on it until 3rd gear and even then I could still feel traction control keeping things from getting to out of hand. I had a passenger in the car most of the day and even on the 208 pass. I was on r888r's. I'll definitely be back again in March with faster passes if i can hit my shift points better.
I may go on Sunday next time just because there would be less cars, they were bringing those gtr's in by semi loads on saturday a.m.41025

Holy crap, it takes a semi load of GTR's to take on a TT Viper! Lmao!!!
How did you stack up to some heavy hitters and how much power are you putting down?

167mph is a good 1/2 mile rip for an N/A car. Well done.

I pulled the logs the day after since I was at the PRI show the day of and it showed 9 runs, two sessions of which were 3 consecutive passes with just a few minutes of idling between them. Not a bad day of racing!

You did great Chris, especially for what the surface condition looks like via data. More than 50% throttle in third gear would get momentum up a bit better and maybe see a touch faster out the back door at the same power level. :)

The R888R is really a phenomenal tire for these types of events as it stays stable and predictable, and at events that they aren't doing burnouts the temp never really gets where you need it for the DR to work it's best. Couple that with dust/blowing sand and the short track is just an excersize in getting the car moving rather than really trying to put power down. I think it went in the low 160's in the 1/4 mile on these runs and that car would very likely run 175 mph on a real dragstrip surface with no other changes.

Another great super sticky tire that needs zero heat/warmup is the Hoosier A7 autocross tire. You can go 10/10ths on a road course with no warmup, I used to use my worn out viper rears on my 830whp GT at the half mile and I could put 100% throttle down halfway through first gear and all of 2nd, even in cold temps. It did better than the drag radials I tried.
