Does this have anything to do with the update and GPS issues?

A dealer that I stopped by this morning said it is the biggest issue they are dealing with lately since the GPS issue impacts all vehicles. Supposedly due to satellites chaining orbit slightly or how they are timed. They follow the exact procedure in the directions and takes just as long, but most people (most highly educated population in America) have a difficult time figuring it out.

Alone else have any info.

Didnt receive that but I did just receive this screen message. I wonder if they are related. I gassed up and came into the vehicle to this screen message. It first came up a month ago during operation and I was able to ignore it. This time the car was off in park and did it so I had no choice. Good times sitting there with people waiting. On the plus side the update took and it started without issues. Then during operation another screen comes on to inform u that the update was successful. you click ok and it goes away.

*sorry the pic is sideways, it wasn't on uploading *

I got this screen after my oil change and inspection from dealership. it came on as I got on the highway and my girlfriend read me the part where it says 'car should not be driven or in park etc.. ' I wasn't pulling over lol. it did reach 100% complete.

There is a separate thread on the UConnect updates you guys are seeing. This is not the same as the GPS USB update that the OP posted about.

Gotcha. I definitely didn't receive that then. Are we all getting them or only select VIN's?

You can also go to the uconnect website and download the update for your specific vin onto a usb and do it that was.. i think its 18.45.xx or 18.5x.xx depending on your year and radio if memory serves me correct

No worries. I had a love/hate relationship with my GTS at one point.

Just to clarify.....are we talking about two different upgrades? One that is recently sent over the air (usually but is also downloadable) for the Uconnect system itself and one specifically to upgrade the GPS satellite system that is being mailed to owners?

Yes. Two different issues apparently.

Mark1107

That is correct ViperJon. The forced update everyone got and updated on its own. The gps satellite update is the usb update that is separate and I guess being rolled out to everyone.

So since I don't have Nav on my car ( I have a 13, and have never upgraded) I guess I won't get this one.

I wouldn't think that matters. The USB drive is for the GPS which you don't need a Uconnect subscription for.

How can we check if we are getting this update if we're not the original owner?

I was not aware that you could download GPS system updates from the UConnect site. I thought they were always delivered on a thumb drive even if you bought just the map update which Dodge sends out advertisements for periodically. I would think they would be too huge to download. Last time I got a GPS update from Dodge it was also on a thumb drive. This was for my 2014 GTS and was several years ago. That was a special of some kind and they sent the map update free of charge for some reason.

Speaking of map updates does this GPS thumb drive include map updates or is it just to update the software so as to avoid the Y2K like bug in the clock?

I just received two emails, one for my 2014 and one for my 2017 from UConnect that offer a map upgrade for the GPS for $149. They say there is free shipping which leads me to believe that they would send a thumb drive. This update is probably just the maps though and not the actual GPS system software which is probably required to fix the clock bug. On the other hand maybe it includes both the map upgrade and the software fix. Maybe FCA is just trying to get me to pay for the fix by buying the map upgrades. Hmmm......

No map update.. just bug update. Downloadable.

No thumb drive yet for my '17. If it shows up I'll install, if it doesn't I don't care...I don't use the Viper Nav feature anyway.

I did get the forced updates a couple weeks ago.

I just received an email from UConnect that offer a map upgrade for the GPS for $149.

What's the general consensus on this?

I do use the system from time to time but with some of the issues I have read about is it worth the money/effort.

I seem to remember one year where they offered the map update for free. You know "Regularly a $149 value now free if you order by xxx", or something like that. I think it was sometime around 2015 or so. They sent a thumb drive which I installed without issue. Here in Colorado they have been doing constant road construction on the interstates changing where exits are, how many lanes there are, and so forth. Given this my GPS is often wrong. "Keep Right to exit" when there is no longer an exit at that spot because it was moved a 1/4 mile up the road. So maybe I will buy the upgrade for one car. I wonder if it will work for both Gen 5 Vipers, my wife's 2018 GC SRT, and my 2017 Ram 1500. Then it might actually be worth the $149.
