After a year of operation, announcing the GT2 Owners Group. The group has located almost 2/3's of the 100 numbered Vipers (internet footprint, name of a current owner, communicated with current owner, or member of a private group). In addition, auto histories have been run of the 100 VINs to learn last/current location, vehicles on MSO, date titled, damage, current or predicted mileage, and number of owners.

As you may guess, many are private collectors and private people - some aren't. In an effort to ensure everyone's comfort, the group is private and owners only.

That said, having accurate information about the 1998 Viper GT2 is better for the vehicle and the Viper community. People, Viper owners and non-owners alike, enjoy seeing one of the most iconic Vipers built. Rarely are they taken out, rarely are they driven, rarely are they enjoyed, and rarely are they shared.

To that end, this thread will be the start of sharing the bits and pieces known about the car. Almost two dozen Viper Team members have shared the creation of the vehicle from October 26th, 1997's FIA GT2 Championship to production of the 100th vehicle on July 7th, 1998 at 1:00 pm. Their contributions are appreciated. Many conversations were expected to take 5 or 10 minutes and lasted an hour. The passion in these Viper Team Members is still as strong as ever.

Over the year, the first person approached was David Hood. David owns a number of Vipers, Gen IIs to be more specific with 99-02 ACR's being the focus. We share a deep interest in this particular Viper and he has been a tremendous help "herding the Snakes" in the tall grass. We make a great team.

We look forward to sharing more over time.

Congratulations on your fantastic project...it has taken a ton of work to get to where you are today !!

I am confident that many of the "more private" owners will ultimately share at least some information on their GT2's as this noteworthy project evolves. You have certainly done your homework in a thorough and tasteful manner...which has been recognized by both "Team Viper" and your fellow enthusiasts !!

Thank you Steve!

You have become a great Mentor and Friend since that fateful day in April of 2017 when I needed to learn about Gen I head gaskets. Thank you for calling this goofball back. It only made all the difference :)

I completely understand the "owner's only" approach in terms of location, name of owner and so on. I really do hope, though, that (little known) general information on this limited production run may be shared with enthusiasts like me to learn more about one of my favorite Viper models. Looking forward to read more here, I definitely subscribed to this thread.

I'm not an owner but I have an interesting little tale about #007. It was originally owned by the man who owned GTS-R P3 that we raced in 1999. When he ordered the replica the order was delayed longer than he was originally told. It did finally arrive and was a really cool car. We didn't have any official support from Chrysler in racing the GTS-R (race car, not street car), but we did get lots of help from them in unofficial ways. We got a phone call on Christmas day that said we needed to get to Detroit ASAP as there were some pieces we needed to pick up. We loaded up and drove from FL up to a building with a door marked with only an "X". When we were escorted inside it was a treasure trove of cool Chrysler stuff, cars and parts. There were shelves loaded with Viper race parts and we were told to take anything that fit our car which we readily did like kids in a candy store. When we were done with the shopping, we walked over to look at the cars stored in the building. There was GTS-R P1 looking sort of ratty, with a gigantic NACA duct cut into the driver's door, wind tunnel testing stuff. There was one of the Super Touring Stratus sitting there and also a GT2 replica. We were looking at it as it was sort of out of place with all the unique stuff in there. I looked at the dash plaque and it was car #,,,,,,,,,,007. It was a surprise since there was also a #007 sitting in the garage back in FL. Guess that explained the delay in delivering the customer car to our owner. They had to build 2 of them. Anyway, that's all I know about that.

KM - give me a call when you can. The current owner will be interested in knowing more :)
