I don't think anyone has posted the newly released times yet, so here you go. Impressive. The Vette is getting a lot of attention right now, but this car is going to hurt some feelings.

I'm not impressed... I mean... Really... Shocker... it runs 10s...? LOL... the C8 makes less than 500hp, and still dices with this pig for HALF the price. Apples to Apples, people. That new C8 is a helluva value for $60k, and I'm not a GM guy. Even Vipers with bolt-ons run 10.50s, but this car needs a blower to get close to doing it. Modifying it further will like make it less dominant on the track as it is a heavy ass pig, and will be overpowered to compensate for curb weight. It's also going to EAT TIRES ALIVE coming in over 4200lbs. That's insanely heavy. Also going to play a part in wearable items wearing out more quickly. The answer isn't pure horsepower, it's BALANCE. Make the the car lighter, get the price down, get the trap speeds up.. and it'll be a viable option! Gorgeous car, good numbers, needs some polishing and it'll be a monster!

Similar in weight to a Camaro ZL1 and have to admit that vehicle is impressive on the track. Saw a GT 500 run at Motorsports Park Hastings in September at the Mustang Roundup ( event Woodhouse Ford sponsors ) and the Ford Engineer piloting it had driven it all the way from near Ann Arbor. He and his son had a road trip bonding experience and considering the drive down and back ,plus a full day on the track , the tires were still showing plenty of tread. Was not a case of being easy on the machine ,either , as he made every session and more , since Ford was showcasing the car to the participants. Needless to say , virtually all were impressed and the car is beautiful to look at. Sure , it is not a Viper, but a lot of car for the money, imho. By the way, we have a bunch of sold C8s ( at our Chevy Store ) on order and they are not anywhere close to half the price of the GT 500. As noted before, hopefully this car, the C8, and others will move FCA to bring back a Viper, as the Challenger is long in the tooth and there are only a few more tricks in the book, though if they lighten is up some and do build an ACR version , I would predict another extention on it's life.

I feel as if your view is slightly jaded.
Running mid 10s at 4200lbs is super impressive...keep in mind, this is completely stock. A set of DRs and suspension, it'll be in the 10.0 range very quickly.
This car hauls the mail around the track. The transmission itself makes the Viper look like a Model T. I would swap out my 6-speed for it any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.
At 4200#, it won't be any harder on tires than a Viper ACR. The ACR will put down twice the downforce, which would end up being about the same weight/pressure on the tires.
Also, 4200# for this car isn't all that heavy. I imagine the transmission is in the 180-200# range. Plus 50# for a backseat. Plus 40# for the supercharger. So, get rid of that and you get right back down to the weight of the GT350R, which has been praised by EVERYONE that has ever driven one on the track.
The new BASE C8, won't touch the advertised performance numbers by Chevrolet. You have to get it in the $70k+ range in order to achieve those...and at that point, you're in the same ballpark as the GT500, in which apples to apples, the GT500 wins on the dragstrip and the track.

Nobody is getting a C8 for 60K.

ViperJon is quite correct , as I believe all the C8s we have sold are in the 75-90K range ( we let all the customers order them the way they want, no ADM). Chevrolet did a killer job on offering a Porsche like list of options, colors, etc. so that by the time the buyers gets what he wants he is up there in actual price. The cars will be quite different from buyer to buyer and that should add to it's appeal - the base price is a great come on.
With the GT 500, C8, one has to believe the Challenger ACR will make a debut, and not be just another rumor, as it makes a lot of sense. Take out the rear seat, put on a light hood and deck lid, lighter rims , lighter exhaust , and bingo, another Dodge surprise like the Demon , Hellcat , Redeye, etc.

All great points... WILL people get C8s for $60k, probably not! Options are awesome, but they CAN get one for close to $60k and at that price it will still perform. Again... it's a cool car, I just think it's over hyped. A $110k Mustang is a lot of coin when a GT can be bought for $35k and set up well (for pennies on the dollar in comparison) to run circles, both strip and track, around that terror. I just hope they limit production and at least keep it a rare sight. Cars are like songs on the radio now... I'm excited the first time I see one then I can't seem to NOT see them. That's why I own a Viper. Hung out with my buddy who just picked up flippin' Aventador. He's had it a month. (I'll post some pics). He had like 10 buddies show up... guess what got started 10 different times and everyone sat in...?
The Viper is beyond capable and affordable, it's downright iconic. It may have tanked and been it's own demise, but it created a cult following.
The mic has been dropped. :)

You're comparing a base C8 to a loaded GT500? In what world does that make sense?

I like your thinking Bill. I'd like to see Randy Pobst take the GT500 to Laguna Seca where he can compare his lap times to those which he completed in the Viper ACR and the Corvette ZR1. Those are probably the proper comparables. I think the proper comparison for the C8 right now is probably the GT350

I guess my overall point is... it's apples and oranges no matter what. I wanna see a high HP C8 ... The Shelby is cool I just think it's a bit over-hyped. A $110k C8Z0-anything will probably leave the Shelby in it's wake. But it's all what-ifs and maybes till we see them come out and get real world data.

Lots of inconsistent/ bad info on Vette pricing. Yes, you can get a 1LT for 60. There are dozens of orders out there under 70. I ordered a 2LT nicely optioned for 69,095. I didn get Z51 because I got it on my C7 and never tracked it.

Nice! In fairness, I was playing with the online build tool, and the Shelby comes in at $72k, but I can't imagine dealers wont mark them up. Props for them offering PAINTED stripes. Their list of $10k is steep, but at least it's done right... even though I don't personally like the way they look.

I definitely think these cars look better without stripes.
I sold all 8 of mine at MSRP.

What state are you in? CA way over-prices their cars, but the per capita demand out here is a bit insane.

correct, even after the first year of the C7 the price went up by 8%. Any price hike means the the 60k price was complete marketing BS because no one can get it at that price.

I haven't seen a C8 price guide, but does the $59,995 price include destination and delivery?

Had the pricing sent over to me, at one time, as helped the Chevy Store sell some of the new Vettes. Pretty sure that destination was not in the pricing as it has not been with any US Manufacturer for quite awhile. I went through the option list and it is extensive , and even for someone who doesn't want much, it is hard to keep it under 75K -- too many cool options. I still have the pricing somewhere, I think, but it is Saturday and I am having a Senior moment about where the Hell I hid that info ---- and frankly not that determined to spend my day looking for it, ha,ha.
