Living in an area what some consider Tornado Alley, I still can not fathom the devastating damage created by a Major Hurricane? Constant wind, storm surge, and the quiet killer, rain, the danger is so long lasting and frightening. I know many of us across the Country are watching the news constantly and are very worried for all our friends in the affected areas. So many of us out in the safe parts of the US are concerned for your safety and please get to an area you can avoid the threat? With power outages , etc. coming, reach out by phone or on this Forum to let us know you are okay. I will take a tornado any day over what you all will be going through, and just hoping the rain forecasts are off, we have seen the sheer disaster of heavy rain and flooding here in the Heartland this year , ourselves.

God Bless!

Thank you! living on the coast near the Outer Banks, I've learned to always keep an eye on the storms and stay prepared.

Thanks. Prep done, now wait and wait. Orlando area here.
I have been in many Hurricanes and 2 Tornados. I pick Hurricanes any day of the week. Tornados are scarey AF, I wont lie to you.
Hope our brothers on the coast fair well.

Got a nice note from American Classic Insurance (USAA Underwrites them)...with an offer of up to $250 to move my Viper to a secure facility if I feel my current location isn't safe enough. I thought that was a nice unsolicited offer. But I'm good.

Dodgefever,

Understand your vigilance and watchful nature, as one of our family's favorite spots on Earth is near you on Ocracoke Island! Do take care and be safe!

Well lets face it they might close the shops! :smilielol:

Partly worried about this myself living in Corpus Christi...especially after Harvey, although it did more damage to slightly north towns like Port Aransas, Rockport. I pray everyone prepare accordingly.

Dang Plum, I didn't know you moved down there, and that is one of mine ( and many others) favorite cities in the olde US of A!! Scary for the lowlands , there, as flooding from rain and storm surge is usually the major concern. Stay safe and dry and will look you up next time the wife and I are on King St.

Thanks for the nice note Bill. I'm currently in Gainesville (FL) these days. We are some 100 miles inland from the east coast of Florida. We are expecting mostly a wind and rain event from the outer bands of the hurricane. We are prepared just in case.

Thanks Red, and there are a couple of Vipers from Woodhouse running around Gainesville , though just South of you, in Ocala, there are 11 Snakes from Nebraska. This monster could still scare up a bunch of tornadoes and the rainfall could cause a lot of flooding, so it sure looks better for the State of Florida than it did earlier - especially inland. I was born in Florida , so I do have a natural inclination to watch the weather there and good to here from VOA members that they are prepared or likely out of harms way.

Looks like the storm has turned North and down to a Cat 2. Sat on the Bahamas at 1 MPH while it was a Cat5:

Hopefully it will slow down some more before making it up the coast. Good news it appears the eye and majority of the storm will stay offshore and not to be a direct impact like what happened to Wilmington, NC in 2018.
