Now that I have the pump off what is the best way to flush the system?

With a drain pan below, turn the steering wheel lock-lock a few times. Set the pressure regulator on your air compressor down around 5-10 psi and put the blow tip on the hi pressure line while the pan catches the cooler return line discharge.

Using a vac reservoir like a mityvac system suck the pump reservoir dry and then top back off with fresh fluid. Start the car and slowly turn the steering wheel lock to lock 3 or 4 times. Repeat that 3 more times topping off the reservoir after the last time. Only thing you have to do is remove the reservoir cap and replace it. If you undo a 20 year old line you should replace it. Also be careful with the low pressure line at the reservoir if you undo it from the reservoir. The plastic hose barb can break off the old plastic reservoir.
