Hi all, I have a dear friend that is in trouble with his dodge viper 1st gen. The 2nd and 3rd cilynder don't fire, there is no spark. The coils pack is OK (it's new) and also the wiring seems ok but i'm not so sure.
We think that one of the 2 ECUs is broken:
4709384 (Engine Powertrain Controller Module)
4708229 (Ignition Control Module)
I have cleaned every connector to be sure that every signal is OK.

In Italy is not a common car, so is very difficult (if not impossible) to find a garage that could handle this problem.
Someone of you have experience or a wiring diagram of this car?

Thank you!

Have you proven the continuity of the wiring between the PCM and the coil pack ??

UPDATE: If you post(or send to me) your email address, I will forward three photos that I took of the PCM, ICM, and coil pack wiring and pins. Admittedly, you will need to magnify the photos, but they should get you started. There are eight other pages of diagrams on this system..
.all from the 1992 Viper Service Manual. My address is zvipers@aol.com

Best of luck to you !!

Looks like there is a problem with coil#5 firing plug 2 and 3....so, the dark green and gray wire from cavity 10 of ICM needs to be carefully evaluated...wire, and pins.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a technician.

Hello Steve, I've checked carefully every wire and seems ok. I've also cleaned all connectors with a specific product.

Thank for your kindness!

We kinda had the same problem last year with my buddy's Gen 1. We put a timing light on the plug wire and we found that the connection on the new coil pack didn't quite snap in. We would clear the codes start the car and wiggle the connection and would loose spark and get a check engine light.

Hi Steve, I got the photos, thank you very much! Today (now is morning here :) ) I'll work on the car!!

@vince; I put a led on the pins of the connector on the coils side. The functional wires switch on the led with a good light. Not the same for the pin that drive the cylinder 2 and 3.

Today I will check again every pin and wire but I have the suspect that the Ignition ecu is broken...
