Were you able to safely disable the Airbag and not have the light turn on?
What steering wheel did you use?
I just picked up a 2018 ZL1 Camaro as my new DD and the D shaped wheel has grown on me a lot. I am not interested in recovering/reshaping the OEM wheel and will save it and the airbag in storage incase I decide to put the car back to stock.
I am looking at the following parts. Opinions wanted,
Sparco L999 wheel. https://www.sparcousa.com/product/l999 330MM diameter
NRG short hub, ( wasn’t looking at the Sparco because of how long their hub is, especially after you add the detachable part. I don’t want the wheel in my chest. Also wasn’t a fan of how it was made. (welded with steel strap spacers and a rubber boot.) http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=172&product_id=685
Detachable interface; http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_294&product_id=1901 (Detachable interface; http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_294&product_id=1901)
Or

Part of me would love to do these steering wheels if it was a bit larger in diameter. Both are 310mm.

I went with the Gen V steering and like it. However that setup looks pretty sick, I'd be very interested in seeing it in a Gen 3/4.
As far as the airbag, the SRS light will definitely turn on if you don't have an airbag. Amazon sells resistors that should take care of the light.

I’m with Fatman, put in a GenV wheel.

I put a Sparco R383 in my '09 when I was tracking it. Air bag light did not come on. However, the driver's seat was removed and I was using a harness instead of the factory belt so that may have had something to do with it. It's a great wheel and is now in my race car.
Not my pics, but that style wheel looks good/seems to retain stock like visibility of the gauge cluster (I had a 300 in one of my other cars that blocked the top of my Racepak cluster a bit):

In the caged viper you'd almost have to have one just to get in and out of it. Damn that looks cramped. Being 6"3 and always feeling a bit tight in the car, a hair smaller wheel and flat bottomed seemed to me like it would make the car more comfortable overall. That is the main reason I am doing this. I'll have to figure out what resistor to go in before I jump through the hoops for this.

Any updates? I have been browsing steering wheels quite a bit lately. Eyeballing the Sparco L999. I am unsure of what hub I need. I do want the wheel closer to me than stock.

NRG makes a hub labeled for Gen 1 but it fits gen 3 & 4. Model #SRK170H
also Momo makes one. Model #MO-2401

I've got a Sabelt SW 390 steering wheel. 350 mm diameter and 90 mm deep dish.

Thanks for the replies boys! Bandit do you have the nrg hub? I am not llreally looking to use a quick release hub so don't think it will be long enough, although I much prefer the construction of it vs the Momo. I've had two that style on other vehicles before.
Heysie, do you happen to know the offset difference vs stock?

I don't know the difference, never had a stock steering wheel.
It's now 6" from the plastic cover. See pic.

That looks about ideal! What hub adapter is that? Looks like it fits the column housing well.

I don't know. The hub was already on the car.

After some browsing I found one single picture of a hub adapter that looks like yours. Although when I search the part number all the other pictures show it as the accordian style adapter, even on Sparco's website. I'll have to contact them.

I've had hub adapters on BMW's and Renault also. They all look the same.

I believe I saw a recent thread around here where someone said the G2 master spline is indexed 90* from the G1 and 3-5. I find it difficult to believe, but may be true. If that is the case, then a person would want to be sure the hub adapter has a steering wheel bolt pattern that has screw holes at 30* increments for a wheel with 6 holes. The one shown on the left above might not work.

Interesting. I've contemplated the idea of a Gen V wheel or aftermarket wheel in mine. For the price of a Gen V steering wheel, I'm sure I could a handful of racing wheels. But the Gen V wheel does have an OEM+ look and feel to it.

That looks so out of place in a Gen II.
