View Full Version : One of the greatest things about the Viper is that you rarely ever see them

Why is this? Are people afraid of the power? :drive:

I never see Vipers in my area. Ever. Corvettes? Yes, every 20 cars is another Corvette. Mustangs? Yep. Every 10 other cars is a Mustang. Camaros? Yep. Same thing.

Viper? Nope. Haven't seen another Viper driving around my town, EVER.

The car is truly a legend. The power, the RAWNESS To it. I absolutely love mine. I feel like when I drive my Viper, I become part of the car. I know what she wants to do, I understand what she can handle and what would be considered pushing it. I love the feel of the shift. It's not "smooth", but it's not "clunky" or "hard". It's difficult to explain. It just FEELS good. I've owned a Challenger Hellcat, a Lotus Elise, a Porsche Boxster S, and have driven a Nissan GTR and Corvette Z06. none of them feel quite like the Viper. The rumble of that motor when you rev it up slightly, and the sound when you take off and barely push the throttle. It's truly an exhilarating experience. True American Muscle. Why do more people not purchase Vipers? Why do they go for the Vettes instead? Are they just wanting the creature comforts? Are they not familiar with the Viper? Is it because so little were produced? Or is it because they've heard the age old "The Viper wants to Kill You" myth?

Anyway, works for me. I like having things that are rarely seen. Been snapping necks the last few days and I'm not doing anything but cruising at the speed limit :dude3:

Yes they are unique. They are hand built. They are special. To me they are also the coolest looking cars I have ever seen. Values will skyrocket in a few years, it's already starting to happen, one here and one there. They will have their day.

One of the reasons you rarely see them , is they are going so fast when they pass by, ha,ha!!

GM builds more Corvettes in an average production year than Dodge/SRT/FCA built Vipers in cumulative 25 years!

Because a heads/cam/straight piped V8 sounds so much better! =)
*ducks for cover*

Lower volume, higher cost and it's a driver's car ... thank god Dodge never pansied out and put in an automatic to try to increase sales

It's a numbers game ... There aren't that many of them out there. And a lot of them spend a lot of time in garages only to be brought out on nice cruising days. I can't be the only one, right?! I've owned numerous Corvettes, but cured myself of that habit when I bought my first Viper ... And then my second ... Well, you see where I'm going with this.

It's the rarity that makes us feel so invited. On one of my cruises to Huntington Beach a guy in a yellow '01 Diablo pulled up next to me and said "I love your car man. You never see them anymore." COMING FROM A GUY IN A DIABLO

I get that they're not very practical though. If I had 60k to blow on a car and I needed it to do everything Vipers wouldn't even be the on the list. Corvettes, Chargers, Challenger, Mustangs, & Camaros can be good daily drivers/grocery getters and a car with a wider variety of uses. Vipers are now legends.

I ask myself all the time when I see cars in the same price bracket, "should I have got that nice car that I see everyday or every week or every month or my Viper that I haven't seen in a decade?" 🤔

I also like having things no one has 🍻🍻

Come to think of it, I ask myself periodically while driving 'where are all the cool cars?' I just realized the last time I saw a Viper was in LA on a cruising day 3 years ago. They truly are rare. I hardly see cool European cars--Vipers, never.

One of the main reasons I bought also. Was dead set on 911 turbo and the only reason I stopped looking for one was the rarity. There are 3 turbos just on my garage floor at work.... all the turbo guys compliment and drool over the viper.

Honestly, I think it is more psychological than anything. If you say to someone,

There is a car that is out there that will deliver 500 hp, has great acceleration and can be had for 30 to 40k used, people would go...."Sounds great....what is it". When you tell them its a Viper, they immediately change their mind and think....That's not for me. Why? People drop 30k on a Toyota? It is not socially acceptable to drive a Viper. It is not what everyone else has. It takes guts or lack of respect for social norms to buy this car. For many people, "showing off" in a car like this is inappropriate.

pretty much covered by everyone. Low production, hand-built, manual only, low on driver assistance.

The rarity was one of the major reasons I bought mine, among many other amazing things about it. I dont like "common" cars and the viper is anything but.

I'm sure there were many things Dodge could have changed, to make the car sell more(like hook it up with an Auto, offer lower/cheaper trims etc) but I'm glad they didnt. That way, only the purest of enthusiasts would be caught in the car.

Put a 60k base C7 next to a 120k ZR1, and the general public will just think it has a body kit on. Its even less noticeable with the 911 line, which ranges from 90k to over 200k.

but with the Viper, you have a VIPER. People go crazy over Vipers. I would hate to like spend close to 200k on a 911 turbo only to have people associate it with the 50% less base 911.

Scarcity is one of the reasons I got into Chryslers 40+ years ago. At the local high school hang out or drag strip, mine was typically the only Mopar in a sea of Mustangs and Camaros. Numbers wise, Ford made more 1965 Mustang convertibles than all types, all years (70-74) Challengers and Barracudas combined. Also, Chrysler only produced ~10k cars with the 426 hemi, all years, all body styles.

Value wise, the holy grail has been the hemi ‘cuda and Challenger convertibles. They only made about 30 of them. The reason they're rare is nobody wanted a “hot rod” convertible, they only wanted the hardtop. The irony is, nobody wanted them then, but they are highly sought after now.

I always liked the #89 for Vipers, and sought-and-bought my 1992 with VIN # #089.

Why 89? It was January 1989 for public debut of the Viper RT/10 at the Detroit Auto Show and other shows. [ Lee Iacocca liked that vin # as well....I sold Lee my 1992 ! ]

Amazing. Did not know that! Staggering fact... wow...

I am loving this ownership/community already!

Fun fact... I had NEVER driven a Viper up until I bought this one. My friend has an ACR, been in GTS... WHY? Cuz I had to treat it like Princess. Lose my virginity to the drive and buy it. Holy V10 rumble am I glad I did! It made the experience even better.

I spent one day driving it around Arizona and it's a whole different level of car. People in NICER cars LOVE IT. Ferrari owners wave and thumbs up... Corvette owners drool... Aston Martin guys, everyone simply loves it. It's an amazing car in person. Pictures never do ANY justice!

One of the more famous VOI-9 White/Blu Coupe owners is none other than Tom Sidlik.

Now a Retired Sr VP at Chrysler, Tom could have gotten any Viper he wanted, and chose VOI-9 White/Blue. May have 001.

Repeat VOI attendees will remember Tom as the exec who always mocked Corvettes with a vengeance at VOIs. He stomped the die-cast models into dust on stage at 2 VOIs.... for the next one he arranged a VOI Video of BIGFOOT monster truck crushing a real corvette in a parking lot!

You hadda be there...... it was hilarious, and Tom got a roaring standing-O of about 1000 clubbers.....
