Has anybody tried installing a GEN 5 steering wheel on a GEN 2?

Is this photoshop?
I posted here some time ago about installing a Gen III or IV steering wheel on a Gen II didn't get a solid answer.

Damn it Matt! That looks sweet. I need more information...NOW!

Nope it's real. I did this last summer. Takes a light modification to the guide key so the steering wheel sits at 12 o'clock but that's it. GenIII and GenIV Steering wheels will fit as well with the same modification. 3714837149

Original plan was to make the buttons functional using RF transmitters but the steering wheel controls looked too out of place with the rest of the car. 37151
Sorry about the sideways pics, posting from my phone and I'm not sure why they're being oriented in that direction.

What airbag did you used with the Gen 5 steering wheel?

The GenV airbag is incompatible with the GenII system. So instead of paying $300-$400+ for an airbag that wouldn't even be plugged in, I designed and 3d printed a replacement cover then had it wrapped in leather.

BTW. What heater control knobs are those. Looks MUCH better than stock!

Thank you! They're my own design. Not quite ready for public release yet, awaiting more feedback from "beta testers".

are you able to reproduce that cover?

Yes, however there are a few minor changes I'd like to make so it's a more perfect replica. This was a rough draft, so to speak, based solely on pictures of the GenV airbag.

Do you know if the Gen III airbag is compatible? I see in the photo you used the Gen II airbag on the GenIII wheel. Looks good but I like the look of the GenIII air bag more.
I suppose you still have to modify the guide key.

I don't know. I suppose you could swap the guts out and put the GenII airbag behind the geniii cover but I personally wouldn't try it. Yes, the guide keys on all newer gen wheels have to be modified to fit.

One more question. What did you use for the Red Sneaky Pete on the Gen II cover?

Here it is with the steering wheel controls still in place. I have a SnakeOyl cruise kit in the box and hope to retrofit at some point.

That, is such a nice update. I always hated the overblown 90's airbag steering wheels. Great job!

Are you sure you won't end up with that badge in your face in case of an accident?
Just checking as airbags arent things to play around with.

Read back through the post. It's just a leather wrapped cover. No airbag. Besides the emblem is more of a sticker than a badge, you could crumble it into a tiny ball if wanted.

Matt, VERY interested in this if you're able to make some of us other Viper owners. Also, where did you get the CF plate/cover around the dials and stereo?

Damn I doublechecked yet still missed it.

Honestly though removing airbag just for the looks is a bad trade...
But hey. I have far worse death traps than that :D

WOW, this steering wheel upgrade is perfect! I have a red GTS and would be interested in doing this to mine as well. When you did this, did you end up having to delete your airbag all together?
