View Full Version : Rebuilding a 2017 Viper GT

Another rebuilders channel. I like this guys style, more straight to the point. Hes fixed a Lexus RCF, GTR, Hellcat previously. Anyone know if this was a members car? This one actually includes a whole new front frame and hes going to have to transfer everything over. Looks like insurance attempted to fix it but backed out

Nice video. It shows exactly what you are in for. It is more than I would tackle, but you will have a very nice Gen V with a unique look. Great idea to change the color as long as it is coming completely apart. Also it is nice to have a brand new frame so everything starts off correctly. You will love driving it when you finish your project.

Looks like this one is going to be labor intense, just transferring everything over to the new frame but won't really require much body work or new parts to purchase. I was shocked when he said he's going to change the color since it didn't need much paint work. I don't think some people realize how high quality the OEM/prefix paint is on a viper. I would say he's decreasing the value but the car is a salvage title so it won't matter much. I'd be curious to know what he paid. The Goonz paid $42k but that TA didn't come with 95% of the new parts needed like this one.
Thanks for posting! Looks like a fun project. Will be following along.

I posted on the video about the viper being 150 hours to handpaint. Just need to let him know, if he does repaint, what he will be undoing.

i find Alex's style to be more straight to the point, goonsquad videos at times starts getting a bit showboaty and sometimes they talk way too much. In a few of his vids Alex even disclosed how much he paid for the car and how much in repairs it cost.

This dude really needs a partner to help him video.
Also, Nardo Grey is the Vape Pen of paint colors.
This project would be awesome though. Having a whole frame in a crate and moving everything over would be a lot of fun. Certainly more fun than pulling dents and fixing cracks.

He paid $54k plus fees. When you factor everything he has into the car i’m guessing conservatively he will have about low $80s into this project. He’s basically doing this for his YouTube. You could easily purchase similar unwrecked viper in the $80k range. As for Goonzsquad viper they had a better deal because it is an orang TA with heads and cam package. I would have replaced the frame. I wouldn’t be comfortable with the way the frame was repaired.

Thanks guys.
I have an in-depth understanding of U.S. copyright laws, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and YouTube Terms & Conditions.
Well.. at least the last time I bothered to read the YouTube T&C's.. which they can change without notification to anyone.
My point is, judging by the music they use in their videos, their target audience seems to be 12 year old girls from Asia. WTF!!!
After using my mute button, found myself fast forwarding through the videos.
So I'm good!

I know a lot of you guys are ripping on this guy, but I like these videos. I'm not the most mechanical guy, and I'm a bit chicken to turn anything more than a basic wrench on my car. Watching this teardown, and the TA one too, it eases a bit of that fear, as I can understand better how the heck it all fits together if (when) something ever has to be fixed. I'm still not racing out to the garage to get right into it, but knowing that I could if I really wanted to makes me feel a bit better about it.
Kudos to him for having the balls to even attempt this, and I cant wait to see him finish it. He's going to have an awesome car and the knowledge and experience that some of us can only have nightmares about.

That’s great that you can get it done for that much. I saw your viper at the auction and figured that it would probably cost me high 70s low 80s if I did everthing myself. I factored tax, title, shipping cost and materials . I don’t have the skill set to paint cars. I figured a new paint job would probably cost me $10k to do a whole new color professionally.
I enjoy your channel the most because you are gaining me insight on how this car was built. Your channel is educational and gets straight to the point. You are doing a great job. Keep it going.

Glad you are a big enough person to apologize. You have to give credit to this young man for doing a crazy swap. Being an everydeay car freak not apolished film maker should not matter. I do agree with you on that point but this kid is fun to watch and asks for anwsers to questions he doesn't know. goonsquads one is already better because of the orange, T/A, and H/C engine, just mainly worried about how the CF repairs will hold up. Alex Rebuilds viper wouldnt have that issue

I would take Viperjons goonzsquad OTA all day long and twice on Sundays the OTAs are sweet. Plus Goonzsquads will sell at a discount. Alex’s is nice and better build, but that color screams ugly to me. GTSRs, Stryker reds and greens and OTAs are the only cars I love.

Goonsquad car is a Heads and Cam car as well, which is something to consider for sure!

Looks like a great buy for somebody if they're planning on keeping it & not worried about trying to sell it later on down the road. Seems like he did a great job of rebuilding it also, just not a big fan of the color!
