How much does the trailer weigh? How much clearance is there to the Viper's wheels? Looks tight.

All trailers are tight unless you have a lift gate type trailer. When we transport Vipers we get almost 2 inches on each side clearance.

6500 lbs. Not sure on clearance, I just drive it in, strap it down, I don't have any issues. Maybe a few inches on each side? I strap through the wheels.

If all ATC trailers have the same width there is plenty of room from the outside of the car's wheel to the inside wall when the car is tied down. Obviously this will matter where the car is tied down. The tight spot is between the trailer's wheels. As the car's wheels pass the trailer's wheel cover there is approx 3" per side. When my car is tied down, the sills are approx 3" from enclosure that covers the trailer's wheels.

I would actually consider buying it if I had a more powerful pickup. My 2017 RAM 1500 only has a towing capacity of 10,100 pounds. If the trailer weighs 6,500 and you add the Viper, extra tires, tools, and stuff I would exceed that number. And I can't trade my RAM in as it is the same orange as my Viper, it looks way cool in orange. When I do tow the Viper on my Aluma 20 foot open trailer, I get people taking pictures of the Viper AND the pickup.

You'd be fine. I have a 2500 with the coil springs which has about the same payload as your 1500. You would just need a weight distribution hitch or airbags to keep the truck from sagging. They payload on my 2500 is only 1900 lbs, they set these up for comfort more than capability. I bet your 1500 payload is very similar.

Dodge says 14,850 but that's with a 5th wheel. They don't list bumper pull max. Our trucks will pull just about any weight behind them, it comes down to suspension sag from tongue weight. When I went to Nasa Nationals I was probably close to 15K lbs with all the stuff I was bringing. The rear sagged a bit even with the weight distribution hitch, but it pulled it like it wasn't there.

His 5.7 hemi in that 1500 would be sitting about 3800-4000rpm in 4th gear at highway speeds with a trailer like that. It will pull it, but it won't be fun. haha

I transport my Viper in a 22ft enclosed with a 1/2 ton truck. The trailer weighs in at 7200lbs fully loaded and my truck has to seriously work to maintain 70-75mph on the highway. Overdrive gears are a no go as these gas V8s need to rev to get to peak torque to sustain those speeds. This is where your Cummins comes in. Those diesels can pull that weight while cruising in 6th gear with that low end torque, and that HD frame keeps the ride settled. I want your truck and trailer :(

My 2015 ram limited 1500 5.7 hemi with air suspension pulls my 28ft. toy hauler trailer (600 lbs tw- 10200 lbs ) without any problems. I have never needed to downshift to 4-5 to pull at 70mph on the level. Uphill (6% or so) my transmission does downshift to stay at 65. The biggest concern is stopping. Just my experience.

Is your trailer a flat nose, the reason I ask, I use a 5.7 Grand Cherokee to tow a similar load with a V-nose and have no issues at all.

Sorry for the thread hijack Arizona!

I'm thinking the 5.7 has enough low end grunt to make the difference then. I have the first gen 5.0L in the F150. I have plenty of power to get going where I need to, but our highways are either 75 or 80mph around here and the truck constantly has to shift to 4th to hold that mph steady with 3.73s in the rear.

For the record, before I got my Ram I pulled this trailer with my wife's GL550 which is rated at towing only 7500 lbs. I was at about 11K with it and it pulled the hills way way way better than my Cummins, but was nowhere near as stable.

At minimum a dually, but still researching. Some say it's scary with a dually, others say it's no problem. Might have to step up to a medium duty truck like the F650.
The aluminum ATC stackers are only 7K-8K lbs, but it's the wind/sway that dually guys say makes it a hairy ride with strong winds.

I have a friend that bought a used trailer that Woodhouse used to use. It is enormous, at least 45 feet long. He was actually longer than an 18 wheeler. Probably illegal in many states. Trailer handles two cars easily, 4-5 sets of tires, tools, go kart, etc. He pulled it with a RAM 2500 for years. He could keep it at 85 without a problem. It was a goose neck with a big overhang for a bed and stuff. I thought he was crazy but the 2500 pulled it. I was impressed.

That's part of the beauty with the Sport Chassis. The engine, gear box (Allison autos), brakes, rear diff and drive line are all commercial grade. Makes std truck equipment look like Tonka parts. They are expensive new but you can find low mileage used ones for the same price as a new loaded Ford, Chevy or Dodge truck. The Sport Chassis is truly in a class of its own. No CDL needed since its just under the required weight limits

Interiors are trick and very comfortable with air seats, fold down bed, TV,s etc. Big fuel tanks for great range to cut down on the fuel stops

I have the optional 'garage' that adds 10 feet and that certainly isn't for everyone since it makes it less friendly to turn around and back up

GREAT setup!! I was looking at that trailer today. Friend has one. His is 31 ft from door to the beginning of the forward section. Gooseneck. Is yours the same length? Any chance of fitting two cars in it?

Racingswh....I don't think you can properly fit 2 cars in a 28' trailer, if you could you would not be able to carry any spares for your
track time.

We will start having 3 cars at events and the other trailer carries all of our spares. Looks too tight to me as well but it's just sitting there unused. Looks like a 40 ft trailer and is definitely 31 feet of flat floor space from the rear door to the front of the trailer where it starts to angle upward at the forward Gooseneck overhang section. Both cars are 14'7" so too tight. Too bad to because it's just sitting around doing nothing with an old rally car in it.

Need a Stacker just like Cable does and the Sport Chassis is definitely the way to go for towing it. Need to sell the Dually. lol!!

My trailer is 40 feet total. 10 of that overhang. Since I have cabinets and stairs in the front, there is no way to fit two cars and even without that, don't think it could be done.

I'm going gooseneck and a shorter height stacker so I think the dually will be fine. I found the trailer I want, but now I'm screwed I just found out the new Ram's wont even be available to order until after March, so August will be the first arrivals I'm guessing.

I think you'll be much happier with the gooseneck vs bumper pull. Are the new RAMs that much different? Might be a good time to find a deal on a 2018, but then again, how many dually cummins mega cab long beds are sitting around on the lot, right?

Yep definitely different. Is there a Mega cab Long bed now? When I got mine which I believe is a 16' because I went with a Crew/Long and wanted a Mega/Long but could not find one built that way. I think mine is only 905 ft lbs with the Aisin trans. New ones make more power and also may have changed the way they configure the Mega cab? AZ what have you found regarding the configurations?

Final configs for the new HD's haven't been released, but I doubt they'll ever do a Mega with a longbed.
