Checkered Flag has an "All Open" track day at Big Willow on Sat. Jan 19th. They usually a small group around 30 or less. Currently there are only 6 signed up. I just talked with the promoter David, he said the event is a go regardless of sign up! There is going to be virtually no traffic for this event. Weather looks to be cooperating at this point. They put on a very nice event that includes high end cars with good and courteous drivers. All levels welcome.

1 day registration fee: $320
Optional Full day One-On-One instruction: $210
Open track all day, no sessions. 7+ hours of track time. Extremely low car count (40 or less). Full corner workers and EMT.
Any NorCal, SoCal or Vipers want to join in..?

Dang it, I'm out of town that weekend. I was thinking of going up on the 23rd with OTR but that's out for me also due to schedules.....ugh. West Coast Racing now put on by Hirko has more cars and 4 run groups but it has always been a great event. It's in March.

Tom, Sounds like a nice event but wow, $320 for 1 day?? You can run test & tune at Willow most Friday's for $150 plus an annual $75 fee. Race cars only, no support.
Hope to see you at BW on 1/26-1/27

Mike, thanks for the info on Willow's test and tunes. BW has them to on a lot of Fridays too. I should have checked (Save $$). The CenCal member that is going with me only has a slightly modified 2001 ACR, its not a race car, so Test/Tunes might be out for him unless they are lax on what qualifies as a race car.
I maybe able to do BW but it would be on the Sunday only.

Hi Jonathon,
Yes, we have done a few Test/Tunes over the years with the Local Viper Club at Buttonwillow. A few years back we went when there was a World Cup Lotus race was on a Saturday and it was crowded with cars prepping and they weren't to friendly or happy with a few of the Viper drivers. Unfortunately it turned off a few of the Newbies. I just didn't think to look or ask about Willow. I have only been to Willow once and that was 10+ years ago. We are so close to BW its just much easier to go there when we get the itch!
Thanks,
Tom

On the Jan 23rd, a wednesday with OTR running at Big Willow. 3 run groups, typically fairly small group. Rumor has it they are the first group to run an event after the track being repaved. Not sure if true.

A couple Vipers having fun last weekend at Big Willow. They just repaved the track so it was a little greasy. Only my 2nd time at Willow, last time was 15 years ago. What a fun and very fast track. Why did I wait so long to go back.
Later in the day I managed a best of 1:37.10. Plenty of room for improvement!
Only 12 cars total for the day. We had lots of track time with no traffic.

Tom,
Glad you had a good time there! Only 12 cars, wow. Yeah, Willow is super fast and fun in a Viper. Let's talk when we're together up there, Ben and I can help you get and easy 3 plus seconds faster. A 1 second plus tip is to not brake and not lift in #8, your aero plus decent tires makes it pretty easy. Keep an eye on your tires at Willow and swap sides regularly, the left side shoulders really take a beating as do the insides on the right side.
Heading up to BW Friday afternoon, Dan Cragin will be there Saturday as we test my car. Hope to see you Saturday or Sunday! mike

Mike,
I am signed up for WS on March 9-10th. Your guy's help is much appreciated. I'm Looking forward to more pointers! I have been battling a very bad head and chest cold (almost had to cancel last weekend) so I won't be making BW this weekend. Hope all goes well with you guys!

Oh good, we all try to pit in the same general area. I'll be there Friday with my Ram Camper Truck and most likely the Panoz. Some folks drop off there car then hit the hotel. I stay at the track.
See you all then...
Carl
