Front Speaker Wiring 96 RT

At the end of the season, I noticed the right front speaker on the factory system in the RT was breaking up. The foam surrounding the speaker is disintegrating.

I got the speaker out and found a replaced 5.25" speaker from Alpine that will bolt in. However, the factory connector on the original sticker has 4 wires going to it....2 green and 2 blue. As I understand it...the blues and greens each are each a "pair".

I'm at a loss to understand the correct way to hook up the new speaker that only has two tabs.

I searched....but didn't find anything about the wiring. I'm thankful for any advice.

I will also add that I'm sure I pulled all the clips and fasteners, but the passenger side door panel seems to be still holding for some reason at the stanchion.

My 2001 RT/10 has 2 screws in each door panel, one below and one at the front end...

Thanks LifeisGood...while mine are slightly different (Gen1 panels) I'm sure I have all the screws, clips, etc removed and it's still hanging on at the top near the stanchion. If push comes to shove, I may take the cover off the stanchion and see if there's a clip, etc that I am missing. Looking at some pics on-line...it looks like there may be some sort of bracket on the door panel, but it's tough to see. The service manual mentions nothing more than what I know of.

The wiring for the speakers is equally confusing...

It's been a while since I had to remove my door panels, but if I remember correctly it hangs at the top. You have to push it up to get it off.

I seem to remember that this was the case on my 2000 GTS...but the gen1 panels are different.

Thanks for the pics of the diagrams. I've yet to search my service manual for that as I figured the actual speaker wiring would be easy.

This pic may help explain the speaker wiring question. The factory speaker has 4 wires connected. If I understand correctly...the two blue are a "pair", and the two green are a "pair" each feeding a separate voice coil. How would I then hook these 4 wires up to an aftermarket speaker that only has two posts? I'm thinking that if I par them up to the two posts, the impedance will change....

From what I remember 2 of the 4 wires are for the tweeter, which is connected in parallel to the woofer using the woofer terminals as wiring points. This is because the stock system does not have a typical crossover. There is just a small capacitor in series to the tweeter. If you just replace the stock woofer you want to make sure that you connect the tweeter in parallel to the new woofer. Hope this helps...

Yes...that helps and makes sense. I'm going to try to mimic the existing hook up on the new speaker so I can use the factory plug....
