Rear diff issues

I have a leaking diff yoke seal. If you are in the SF Bay Area, who do you trust to deal with your drive-line maladies?

Go to a 4x4 shop. Contrary to all the super posers, the Gen 2 Viper is neither a super car nor an exotic. An off road truck shop can do your diff.

Lol...I kinda thought so, since heavy duty is heavy duty. Dana parts abound. I was just wondering if someone had a favorite. Finding a good shop is getting to be a n ongoing challenge. I'd do it myself, but there is little glamour in diff work, and I really hate the smell of gear oil. I gotta agree, that the Viper is pretty pedestrian as far as exotitech is concerned. *peace*

I just had to drop mine to replace hardware on the stub axle. Did new bushings and a reseal on the cover. Really easy afternoon if you change your mind.

I don't like gear oil smell either. :barf:

As a follow up to the leaking diff: This is what was done to fix the leak:

Undo the pinion nut, and take off the flange. Degrease, or deoil, the flange, and in particular the splines, the nut, and as best you can, the splines on the pinion. Place the flange back on. Run a thick bead of quality silicone in the recess that the nut sits in, up against the splines. Put some thread locker on the threads. Replace the nut. We will see if it works.
