No joke , 20 folks already signed up for the largest Viper Track Event in the US! With close to 60 Snakes slithering out to Hastings, Nebraska, the 10th Annual Event should be the best yet and since the Rendezvous is Viper Exclusive what better place to get Instruction, track time, and tips on what make the fast guys , really fast!? Furstenau Financial and Woodhouse Auto Family have been your main sponsors since day one, but we have to thank the great folks at Motorsports Park Hastings for going beyond the normal track support and making this one of their premier events , also! Just ask someone who has gone , and you will find out why this should be on your bucket list !!
Over the years we have had folks from Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Canada, Idaho, Wyoming , Missouri, Colorado, Arkansas, S. Dakota, Illinois, Ohio , and Indiana, to name a few. Hastings is super easy to get around, nothing is too far away ( Restaurants, hotels, etc. ) and the city welcomes us with open arms. Make this your Christmas gift to yourself and sign up for the best Viper get together for a track rat!

I think my screen saver on my work computer has your car with mine carving a corner! Love it. I would attach it, but it’s not on my phone. Last year was my first rendezvous and it was my favorite track event so far. Most respectful group I have ever shared a track with.

Should be quite a few Comp Coupes at the event this year, along with a strong number of ACRs ( Gen IV and Gen V ) , and often 2-3 ACR-Xs. But , we still get a solid number of Gen IIIs and Gen IIs, and there are classes for all , so no worries about running your classic Snake against the Fangs and Stryker Versions. We usually have 2-4 folks show up with Gen 1s , so it is a cornucopia of slithering serpents, a regular pit of Vipers leaving their venom around the 2.1 mile track !

Also, about this time of the year, Santa is making his appearances all over the world. Well, Viper Rendezvous will also have a special guest. He even has even blessed us with his presence in our 2019 Viper Rendezvous Video! Enjoy!

It has always been a Time Trial situation, with three , even four days to run ( Thursday and Sunday , if timed do not count) with tons of classes , quite a few ACRs, ACR-Xs, and Gen V ACRs, along with 3-5 Comp Coupes, in addition to other Viper models/years. There is also a full lap Autocross ( denoted now as the Vipercross ) and I would get ahold of Ryan Furstenau as I believe the event is full , but we are taking names since usually a few have personal things come up and they can not make it? Timers are provided for those that do not have systems in place.

The weekend is setup as a high performance driving weekend, but transponders are provided and we do give out trophies for fastest laps times at our banquet. (We class the cars in 4 classes.). Drivers are there to have fun driving on the track with a little bit of friendly competition.
This year we we are adding our East vs West Time Trial in which we will pit the top laps times of the drivers east of the Mississippi vs the top lap times of the drivers west of the Mississippi. It should be fun and we will have a traveling trophy.
We we will have drivers of all skill levels and cars from all five generations including many comp coupes and ACRXs.
Right now now we are sold out at 60 drivers and we have a waiting list started. We are exploring our options for accommodating more than 60 drivers. If you want to get on the waiting list, please let me know ASAP.

No, the 1:28 was run by Bob Woodhouse in his magnetic colored World Challenge Comp Coupe ( on dinky little 325 rear tires ). The best I ever ran was a 1:30 in my 2008 ACR Hardcore ,but that lovely beast is owned now by a VOA member who still takes her out to the track to get her much needed exercise,ha!
Fun , fun event and since it is Viper only , lots of good technical help and advice is often available , since some of the participants have been driving these Motor City Mambas for years.

hehe "dinky" 325's lol. I'm guessing Pirelli's, those are massive once stretched out on wide wheels. Like my 310 Michelin's are really 353mm on a 13" wheel. I don't know what's fast out there, but a 1.28-1.30 would beat the Nasa record so I'm assuming it's fast! What tires were you running on the 1.30?

Heh, Bobby W. is in his 70s , so gotta give him his due ----though I think he would have been 68 when he whipped off that 1:28 ( on Pirellis, ha). Fastest time out there, so far, was Keith Anderson , who did a 1:27 in his nasty black ACR ( ran it in Trans Am a couple of times and did quite well ). I was running a set of Hoosier R7s , surprisingly on 295s up front - and not at this event.

Needless to say you can tell there are some quick guys coming to the Viper Rendezvous and don't count out Ted Hughes in his ACR-X, as he has been at the top of the heap many years too ( he has been in the 1:28s also, if I remember correctly).

Like so many tracks , weather condition, age of the surface, dirt, etc. can affect track times, but with everyone there running Vipers, when you do well, you do it with all your fellow participants running under the same conditions. There have been years where folks were not close to their personal track records , but the wins were even more rewarding due to the tightness of each class. The fun part is you are running with an extremely congenial group, and everyone wants to help each other, so gleaning set up secrets and upgrades to the Snakes , is extremely easy and not held close to the vest compared to most track outings.

Hi all. First post on the viper forum.. I just stumbled on this event and the wife and I are kicking around the idea of driving out from Boulder, CO to check out the cars and chat with some folks. Currently considering selling my Spec Miata to help fund a Viper purchase. Have raced karts and cars for nearly half my life, and absolutely love the competition at the front of a sprint race, but that dream of owning a viper has never really gone away.
If we make the trip out is there any chance we could maybe bum a ride or two throughout the day?

The good news is that we are sold out and we will have 60 Vipers in Hastings in June. The bad news is that we are still sold out and we haven't had anyone cancel yet. I just finished going over the track schedule with George at the track and to make sure everyone has the best track experience possible we are going to stick with our limit for this year. We will see how the weekend works on the track and possibly adjust that number for 2020.

Just had some folks asking and I knew many realized how popular this event was and jumped on the bandwagon early. But, did not hurt to check if there were any cancellations, and it should bode well for selling out again next year?!
Good thought to stay at your level , and we can always get our heads together next year to see if there is a way to accommodate more Snakes , and still give them plenty of slithering time?
Thanks for posting an update Ryan!!

Can you guys give me an idea what the format looks like? How many run groups with 60 cars? Is there an instructed group and do you need any help in that regard? I apologize if I have just missed it.
Do Driver's looking to put down quick timed laps have their own sessions?
Bill Pemberton
03-17-2019, 10:48 AM
Drivers are put in groups based on their experience and the fast group has some very quick cars usually ,with some ACR-Xs , Comp Coupes, ACRs, and some SC'd Vipers. With the three groups there is plenty of track time and with 20 on track you have plenty of space to put in a quick time. Likely there are enough Instructors , but am sure Ryan could keep you in mind if there is a need -- this is not a discounted position, just completely volunteer if you are needed. I assume you have already signed up for the event as you likely noticed Ryan's post the event is sold out!

We actually have 25 minute run groups. Friday will have 4 groups with 5 sessions each. One group is for the student group.
Saturday will be 3 groups with 4 sessions each (students combine with the third group) and a two hour Viper Cross session. We turn the entire course into a big autocross. Not slow speeds like a typical autocross...thus we call it the Viper Cross. Adds 10-15 seconds to your lap time. You will get two attempts.
If if you are signed up for the full weekend, Sunday will have 3 groups and another 3 sessions each Sunday morning.
Your registration includes lunch Friday, dinner Friday, lunch Saturday, and Prime rib dinner at our banquet Saturday night.
If you bring a guest, you can pay for their meals too. We are adding that option back to the registration page this week.
Transponders are included in your registration and you can see all of your laps via the Race Montior app.
Plan to arrive on Thursday as tech inspection is done from 3:00 to 7:00 on Thursday.
As far as needing instructors, I believe we are fine as the track arranges all of that, but can keep you in mind.
Bill is is right on with the grouping. We group the cars according to lap times. For new participants, I will probably check in with you a few weeks out from the event to gauge your experience and get everyone into an appropriate group. We can makes changes on the fly if we get someone in a group that they don't fit into. On Saturday we will reassign groups as needed based on Friday's lap times.
Racingswh....I will make sure to put you in group 2. We can adjust as necessary.

No worries Mike, as my Snake is a garage queen and will not see the track ------- let the dog pile begin, as yes I know how many times I suggested these beasts were meant for the track, ha. If I am in your way , though, it will only be for a parking space, ha,ha.

Getting in Bill's way would actually require him to bring his car to the track. You might ask him about his garage queen.

Big Alert !!!! Will post again so folks see this , but it is 99% certain that the Pump and Pantry will have 100 Octane race fuel by the time the Rendezvous occurs this year. I will update , but it appears to be a given as product is on it's way.
Key here is that if you run a Snake you likely have found out from this Forum that 93 Octane is optimal for strong performance and with some mods even a bit higher is great. Those with race modded beasts may need 98-100 and now we will have close by to the track and no more need for some to lug barrels and bunches of fuel cannisters to the event -- I don't know anyone who really enjoys lugging a bunch of fuel to the track in their trailer.
So the regular tanks will still have 91, but a little 100 Octane will get you the rise to 93 and if you have a RaceSnake -- bingo you are in like Flynn!!

That’s really cool of them to do this especially considering their close proximity to the track! My car eats 91 with no issues but for the hotter cars it’s going to be appreciated! Great even getting better!

Good situation even for you Silver ACR, as 93 Octane is the recommended fill, so as I mentioned a little blend of 100 Octane will get you to that magic number. See you at the event.

Oh I’ll take advantage of the higher octane although it’s not going to be the thing that pushes me over the edge for a trophy;) I’ll just plan on bringing cash for the silent auction so I can take something home LOL

Would love too, but can't get time away without lots of advance notice. I would be towing from Cali and that adds up to too many days of time off.

Actually there are quite a few salty drivers , and though Keith Anderson (MN) has had the top time of the event several times, so has Bob Woodhouse ( TX.) and Ted Hughes ( NE. ) When you break it down there are quick Pit Viper Pilots from Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota , etc., .......in other words there is no one spot in the US of A that has a predominance of speedy Serpent drivers .
Over the years Snakecharmers have come from all over the Country and most are pretty adept at snaking through the course at Hastings, but I imagine the results could be posted after the Rendezvous so many can see where their friends ended up?

I am betting there will be unreal competition and videos from the 10th Annual Viper Rendezvous since there will be 11 Comp Coupes screaming around the track ( shades of Viper Days past ) and there will be plenty of Gen IV ACRs and Gen V ACRs. Sure is busting out to be the best Rendezvous ever!!??
The top three times ever posted will see those three drivers competing with each other this year, but plenty of new hotshots are coming to challenge and possibly push someone into the 1:27 range???
With one driver coming from NJ, he is sure to win the longest travel award. Stay tuned , as Ryan Furstenau is always adept at getting great shots/videos of the Rendezvous so all that missed this year will see why they need to register early for 2020!?

Nasa Central region doesn't update their track record page as another member on here pointed out to me. The fastest time I could find with nasa is ironically a TT2 car, a Lotus Exige which ran a 1.28. Also a couple nasa spec racer Elan NP01's which also ran 28's, which is weird because they are "slow", more like TT2 cars. Maybe they were modified? Most impressive I found was a TT3 bimmer that ran 1.33 with 250whp and a 108whp Miata that ran 1.38.

According to the banquet awards the records went like this. Friday morning Bob knocked off the record then Keith took it until Saturday morning where Bob took it back with the 1:26.xxx. Both guys are amazing drivers and it was fun to watch!
The other note was this year there was an east/ west rivalry started where the west of the Mississippi River guys took the first trophy!
Congrats to the west guys and better luck next year east!
Super amazing turn out of comp coups! Not sure I could have imagined seeing that many in one spot let alone screaming around the track!

Here are a few post Viper Rendezvous comments for you.
We ended up with drivers from 15 states.
42 drivers set new personal best lap times over the weekend.
As was mentioned earlier, the Viper Rendezvous track record was beat on Friday by Bob, only to have it bested again by Keith Saturday, and the final record set by Bob about an hour after that.
We had 61 drivers. (62 if you count THE STIG.)
With all of the guests, we had around 130 Viper fanatics at the track, meals, and the banquet.
10 Comp Coupes were at the track and 5 ACRXs. We also had 9 ACR Extremes and another 14 Gen IV ACRs. TAs added another 8. So, 25% were full blown racecars and 75% of the field was sporting some sort of wing and/or splitter.
I am sure I will have more to pass along as I continue to debrief on the weekend.
