I want the out the back exhaust on my Gen 3! Has anyone done this? It would be out the rear bumper not under the car.

I may have just cried a little bit.

It will sound better, be less ear pain. I can bring you a B&B rear cat to use if you want to give it a shot

That's what is known in F-1 circles as a "blown diffuser." High exhaust velocity directed through the strakes increases downforce!

And now you know why I want it. Side exhaust causes a huge drag penalty.

Please cite your data to back this claim up. I want to know exactly how much drag there is on side exit vs rear exit exhaust.

"A cold air intake for the engine is an effective aero modification, with most of the benefit due to lower air temperature rather than higher pressure. Likewise, locating the exhaust pipe outlet in a strong low pressure area provides an aero gain. Exiting the exhaust out the side of the body produces a strong jet of exhaust airflow, which adds drag and exhaust back pressure."

Okay...maybe it might make .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of a difference...which would not really mean anything. Still though, I want to see the difference in drag for a side exit exhaust vs a back exit exhaust. The article merely made a statement and did not back it up with any sort of empirical data. It is also funny that, the car at the bottom of the article, a world record holder...has side exit exhaust. Your statement of "huge drag penalty" is just not accurate. I'm pretty sure that if it was any usable difference, everyone would be running exhaust out the back. All the Vettes, Vipers, Ford GT's, and others at LeMans run side exit exhaust. I think you will be just fine if your street driven Viper has side exit also. :smilielol:

True???

I would venture to say the extra weight of the rear exhaust would negate any benefit in drag.

The Gen 3's were sold in Europe with rear exit exhausts, so the parts maybe still available from Mopar, looks kinda weird with the side sills blanked off though, and some owners have converted to US spec side exhaust

Good to know. I'll start looking for Mopar exhaust part numbers. If not the local exhaust shop should be able to make them. Thanks

Those look like Corvette exhaust tips. Horrible! I'll bet he is several seconds faster at the track though...from eliminating all that side exhaust drag. :smilielol:
